I have a 2001 VW Bora 1.9 SE diesel. Ever since I have had the car, in cold or damp weather the trip computer glows bright red. I can just about see the readout and is showing ok. Has any one had the same problem and as to how to fix it, as VW want to charge a small fortune to fix.
Thanks
Mark

I've noticed in Colder weather that my computer seems slower to react (bear in mind it's an LCD panel, and the crystals move slower as they are liquid), but never glowing bright red.
Does it carry on once the car is warmed up?
Can you make out the lettering on the display?
Is it a niggle or a major headache, cos' that would really be the decision between getting VW to fix it or not. bearing in mind that the mileage is a separate indicator on the Bora
I checked my Haynes manual and it states that although you can remove the entire Instrument Panel, if any of the components are faulty, the complete panel needs to be replaced.
To give you an idea of cost, I had a new panel fitted to a LHD Golf MkV last year (Conversion to UK Spec) and it was £246+VAT for the panel plus labour.
Hope this helps...

Thanks for your help .I can just about see the lettering and seems to be working ok Displaying temp and MPG And Ice warnings did you get it fixed at a vw dealer im thinking that if its a plug in panel to do the job myself

I had the dealer do it, it was brand-new.
The problem you have is that they need to re-sync both the car keys with the master control unit when they do this (why I don't know, but apparently they had to do it), so it's really a dealer fit. Not like old cars!
