Audi 80 hall effect sensor - TimOrridge
Hi,

Just had AA looking at a turning over but non-starting audi 80 2.0 (ABK engine). He said it needs a new hall effect sensor on the distributor. Is it a big job and is it cheap. Would a new dzzy make more financial sense?

Always check a road-side diagnosis before committing yourself. Some AA men are brilliant - others....

If that's what it turns out to be, you'll have to consult the dealers to find out costs and even if it's available as a separate part; some types aren't.

Haven't got any ABK data to hand; but if it's the camshaft-mounted dizzy:- remove it; remove it's drive dog; [rollpin] and pull out the shaft to access the sensor.

If it's the other [block-mounted] type then a re-con dizzy may be the best way to go.

Dunno how much they are for cars, but a Hall sensor is very simple and cheap to make. Then again it is an Audi!!

Its a common fault on Audi 80s
Not too expensive and relatively easy to replace.

Don't know anything about the Audi 80, but as far as my Polo was concerned, the garage said it was just as cheap to replace the whole dizzy as the parts were fiddly to fit and not widely available. GSF sell a hall sender for the Audi 80, priced at £31
