Tolerance - Roland
Been away for a few days and was a little surprised at the reaction to the ?High Mileage Bores? post. To put the record straight I wasn?t having a dig at the zillion mile bangernomic enthusiasts. Simply at those advocating this as the only route to motoring Utopia and then being frankly insulting to anyone with the temerity to contemplate buying a new car.

What makes this forum so compelling is the diverse opinions of the contributors. The downside comes from those who cannot accept that others hold different opinions.

Personally I missed not having a post from Mark (Brazil) who I expected to contribute a lengthy and informative dissertation on South American Izal.

Sorry `bout that, SWMBO brought in reinforcements last Thursday morning and I`ve been a little distracted.

And just look at the time !! I don`t get fed in the middle of the night, how come she does ?
Sensitive, Moi? - Rob Govier
Long live tolerance.
Well said.

Re: Sensitive, Moi? - David W
"Roland",

Why the surprise?

I left the thread alone because it looked like a wind up. Something like that from someone posting under a name new (I think) to the forum, who then doesn't respond for days fits the pattern of those who wish to get others going.

And yes you did have a dig at high milers, those looking for budget/beat the system motoring and those advocating regular oil changes....everything "HJ" stands for really.

Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Cliff Pope
Yes, well said, tolerance is the thing. There should be room here for most views and life-styles.
But it is true that what fascinates some people does bore others, so perhaps the thread titles could be as descriptive as possible. Why do some suddenly change their titles mid-thread, so that "How do I fix a bent widget?" becomes something like "So who cares?" or "um, yes" ?
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
bores and tolerances? At least we are back to motoring, eh Martyn? :)
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Tomo
"bores and tolerances"

That's enough to give one a stroke.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
Tomo, are you off your rocker?
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - David W
I don't know if Tomo's off his rocker Ian but he might be a little sad, I hear after a visit from the fox his big hen's gone.

David
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
That sounds serious.
He'll have to phone the garage, and it'll be Toad away...
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - AFM
And with reagard to the Izal, I prefer Andrex on the whole.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Brill
Ouch!
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Rod
Careful you blokes - otherwise you'll push Rod too far.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Dave
It's great to see you connecting, Rod.

Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Mark (Brazil)
this thread will come to a big end soon.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Dave
I agree Mark, I'm begining to lose my bearings already.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
turning into a bit of a crank?
Now, don't start anything...
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Mark (Brazil)
well, I`m starting to clutch at straws but I`m gearing up for another pun if I can just steer the conversation in the right direction without Martyn putting the brakes on the thread before we have the opportunity to exhaust every possiblity.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
More puns like that could lead to your suspension.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Mark (Brazil)
in that case I'll throttle back on the puns and let somebody else take the driving seat.

Its an approach that you can hatch while drinking in a saloon bar. The one I like is at the bottom of the estate. I get an escort from the local hunter and his daughter, who is a little minx. I met them years ago on the way back from a mini fiesta held to celebrate the new bridge across the ford.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
sorry. that means vauxhall to me.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Ronnie Courtney
Please don't anyone come up with anything that might cause MBRM to put the boot in and cause the suspension of this bumper selection!

Ronnie
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
Yip! MBRM will put the boot in! Better stop, before we tyre him out...
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Mark (Brazil)
I think Martyn is probably busy speeding from one problem to the next, and doesn`t have time to take due care and attention of this thread. This leaves us with no insurance if something goes wrong and we are summonsed to account for our writings.

We should make more effort to police our own behaviour.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - ian (cape town)
Pack it in, Mark!
You know you shouldn't be here - you should be looking after the baby!
By the way, have you got a bonnet for her yet?
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Alwyn
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when............
Apologies to MBRM - ian (cape town)
We have hijacked this thread, and are wheely, wheely sorry.
We know you hate to put a damper on these things, but realise your disapproval is mounting.
I'd just like to relay our apologies - I'd hate for you to blow a fuse.
I'm going for an injection now.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Alwyn
Ian,

Don't forget your bonnet and boot!
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Dave
Yes Ian and Mark!

You could well cause high tension! MBR may have to distribut-er rollicking.

Then sparks would fly.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Mark (Brazil)
there's always some bright spark leading the conversation off to other points. Trouble is. this can make high tension lead to more discussion before someone plugs the gap.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Dave
ECU'r point. The chat here is electric and it's great to have the contact. Ohm off home soon so I hope i don't meet much resistance. Fortunately I don't live Faraday. Some nice Marconi for tea.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Mark
I think this is starting to take the pisston
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Alwyn
Dave,

Eddy Current took Millie Amp over the Wheatstone Bridge...........
Re: Apologies to MBRM - KB
Oh this just rolls on and on, I mus say dees jokes are a triumph over previous ones. Incidentally I've just bent Lee over a Leylandii bush and am about to cane him to the limit. Oops - I ought to tread carefully I don't want to cross Ply - the mood he's in.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Lee H
Oi!

I've got to put my foot down. I've not cam here to be belted.

Lee.
Re: Apologies to MBRM - Brill
Martyn Back Vroom Monitor will be after all of you punsters.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - Flat in Fifth
Enough of all this surfing with Explorer, its about time I got back to work and made another Discovery and invented some more new Steels and Alloys. Mind you I will have to justify the price differential. Think some limited slip will be allowed in the programme.
Re: Sensitive, Moi? - markymarkn
Astra all those jokes im gonna have to have a sit down.

The puns are getting a-polo-ing now, but this this thread has gathered so much speed, theres ABSolutley no chance of it stopping just yet...
Lets just hope the phorum server can handle all this comedy and doesnt lock-up, otherwise the thread would schreech to a halt...

:-)
Thanks Guys - Kev
Can I just thank y'all for a fab thread, you have really cheered me up.

And can I claim the award for boring post, please? As I refuse to lower myself to making a cheap Pun[to]

Kev

P.S I played Golf and Polo this afternoon with Sharan, and I Passat on a Beetle. It went Lupo, I used every swear word from Alfa to Omega, of Corsa it hurt.
Previa-sly I have been to Ibiza, and was Impreza-ed with the Legacy which is Justy-fied for the Scenic Skyline and the Galant Caren and Marea Synergies. I was dancing the Mamba with them like a Maverick, but the Vanquish-ed when a Spider came into Focus, and did a 360 spin and A[im]4 them. I got their number, and Accord them, but it didnt [Tus]can to much.
Its very Trajet. I may just be too Noble.

Better stop now, im exhausted and tyred.
Re: Thanks Guys - Clive
'Exhausted and tyred' - is that another way of saying piston broke?
Re: Thanks Guys - Julian Lindley
Roland,

Similarly to David W, I felt your note unreasonably and unecessarily provocative to encourage any response from my hand. This posting of yours is welcome moderation - great!

I suspect my own experience regards car longevity and brand new units is shared by a good few who correspond to this site, its dead boring, but a necessary reality:

Raising a family conflicts with available budget and your 4 wheel desire. A compromise is purchased, and because there is a significant time interval self imposed before you purchase its replacement, a certain psychological pleasure is derived by achieving a high milage at low cost. Pressures on budget eventually ease and after making do for a good while (yourself and your partner) , perhaps with several similar replacments, it is a real treat to buy new, and I am the proud owner of a new C200K. My previous wheels a Cavalier (181 K miles) has been passed to my youngest daughter, presently at university, and she is over the moon!

Even if dreadfully dull, and I do admit it, long term it makes eminently good sense to have a longer term strategy.

Regards,

Julian L
sorry ... - ian (cape town)
Sorry if I offendered anybody.
what started out as a mere jest has turned into a pun-fest.
I hope martyn will soon put a block on this, before it comes to a head.
I'm broken half-shafted about the trouble I wrought.
I must dash.
sorry.
Re: Thanks Guys - Julian Lindley
All,

I,m going to go off in high gudgeon. Its very naughty of you all to hijack Roland's post like this. I will be, well, helical if you continue!
