Well thus far it has, two mechanics and a parts guy and counting..
Let me go back to this morning, bearing in mind no noises or problems at all from car on it's last journey saturday.
I pull away this morning on flat ground and instantly I hear twang, then grind, grind, grind as the car goes faster. I stopped, thinking I was pulling or dragging something by the wheel, but No!
Off I go again the noise gets worse, and the car pulls to the left so I am forced to pull over, call the AA and 1 hour later the guy gets me to turn the wheel from side to side. Excited he proclaims the coil (suspension) has come off, he tried to pull this loose but no it is stuck (and has no idea how this has happened).. Call the tow truck and he says the same as he drives to the Dealer, making matters worse by saying 'ooh that will cost ya!!!
I get to the dealer to be told both coils have come off, the tyres are slashed by the suspension coils and the car slumped forward and the parts guy scratching his head saying 'That's a new one on me'..
So I await a verdict from the dealer, but let me just put your minds at rest I drive on the motorway predominantly and cannot remember the last time I went over a pothole or a hump, moreover I cannot remember the last time I went over one of them at speed to unhinge two coils....!
Can you help?
Best as always,
Craig J.

I wonder if it has control arms/wishbones which are mounted to a subframe which is loose/damaged etc... pulling both struts backwards or forwards?
Good luck!

The wheels were not slanted in anyway, and when I pulled/pushed the tyre back and forward, they were both sturdy?
Adds to the mystery perhaps, went through MOT 1 month ago..no problems....

2001 model? lots of broken car springs on this year particularly mondeos i reckon they used bad steel(the manufacturers, they say speed bumps)in the making of the springs in this year,(go on say its a 2002?)

Sounds like the coil springs snapped-rather than come off the mountings,if so and close to mounting pressure of spring would prevent any pull away.
After reading a point Aprilia made about springs some threads ago,ie made thinner but expected to do the same job,or words to that effect, this does not surprise me.though not heard of it before!.live and learn

I suspect the same (snapped coil) but both at the same time, and under no strain....?
|
>>and under no strain....?
springs are under pressure all the time, moving or standing still

apologies mean't to stay going over humps etc, appreciate your thoughts...
clutch bearing gone (new clutch), two tyres and coil springs need replacing, it's been a crap day let me tell you.
I appreciate all you folks efforts, and trust your opinion.. just need some ammunition for an impending huge bill...
In my personal opinion, never and i repeat never, buy a Pug...I have had nothing but hassle from three seperate service departments and the car....
any futher thoughts welcome..

>>apologies mean't to stay going over humps etc,
No need for appologies,But bear in mind springs are under pressure all the time as they hold the car up.have no idea why yours collapsed but would be interesting to find out results!

Is this thread of interest - I realise it refers to Berlingos but they may share springs or manufacturers??

well the car is back from the shop and a Christmas miracle has occured....
Firstly let me thank you guys for your thoughts once more..much appreciated..
Not much technical info for you, other than to say the springs both snapped (at the same time) which let the mechanics a little bit confused...
So confused in fact they proceded to tell me I need new struts, suspension rods, springs of course, etc etc..plus of course a new wheel...chaa ching I hear you say...
Well it is truly a xmas miracle that I got a phone call from the dealer the night before to tell me that the car would not be ready but that Pug have decided to pay for the faulty gear...
Yes the garage reported the problem, and were told that this was a technical fault and to invoice them for the majority, plus one wheel.
can you believe it...so pass the word on to other pug 206 (2001) car owners to ask for the same if a similar incident occurs...
Cheers,
Craig J.
