Regulars will notice that I have been desperately searching for a car the last week after mine was written off.

To cut a long story short went to a local auction i.e Mannheims Colchester, bought a 51 Reg 1.9TDI 130ps with 52k miles on the clock from a fleet auction was owned by Macdonalds Restaurants/lease from Arval.

Last serviced 20 k miles back.Smelly interiors and a bit scruffy.Duh,did I make a wrong decision??Looks cheap compared to the regular price,or is it??

Any independant that I can take this car to,what would your opinion be on servicing , whether to get it serviced by a VW dealer(lots of horror stories on this forum!) or any independant.

Anything I should watch out for at this stage ie 52 k miles.

Thanks for any opinions.

Price looks OK. What trim is it - S, SE or Sport?

I had one for 3 years until June this year and, apart from a problem specific to my car, it was a good a servant returning upto 60 mpg on a good run and around 43mpg around town. Performance very acceptable too.

VW servicing attitute is somewhat arrogant but would suggest you put your new purchase in for a full service with them, at least for the first check.

Sounds like you should invest some money in a valet so sort out the burger'd interior.

With 130bhp its unlikely to be the S I would have thought - so probably SE or Sport.

I agree with Ian. Get the car valeted - whats that - £50? and then treat it to a major VW service including change of anti-freeze and brake fluid and it seems like a reasonable buy. I assume that the cam belt will need changing at some point, someone else here will tell you when.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Would say its a very good price compared to retail, if you have any doubts search for a car similar to your on VW's website

Don't know about the price, what do these retail for? As E3 said, get it valeted. Passat is a nice looking car, although some people have had problems with them. Do a Forum search and have a read. Then you'll know what you're up against.

VAG TDI's aren't the quietest, but very economical. I believe the cam belt change interval is 60,000, make sure they change the tensioner too. As regards servicing, you could find a independant VAG specialist, or slightly off the wall, if you know of a good Audi, Seat or Skoda garage, they may be able to help given as the engine is used in those cars. I think the engine was used in the Galaxy, so maybe a Ford garage can help?

Where are you - i know you bought the car in Colchester, but for all we know you may not be based there. Give a location, and someone may be able to recommend a garage.

Assuming it is an SE or Sport and is in good condition it looks a decent price, even at auction. One of the fastest ways of generally feeling better about a car is to get a full valet done. Will cost you 50-70 quid for a proper one but worth it.

Assuming you're near Colchester, John Austin in Marks Tey seems to be one of the best known independent local VAG mechanics.

Wish I could get that fuel mileage from a Passat Diesel.
Mine ,100PS estate, is doing 44mpg on long runs and ~32mpg around town.
And has since new.

No offence but if you are only getting this from a Passat TDi 100, I would suspect you may have a technical problem with the car, or have a very heavy right foot.
My dad has this very car, and gets minimum 50mpg at motorway speeds, (70-80) and no less than 40 local driving. I have an A4 with the same engine only 130 BHP, and my AVERAGE mpg over the last 3000 miles is 47.9, with a mix of motorway and local driving.

I am with the gent from scotland... I had one for 18 months and got an average of 44MPG.. I DO have a heavy right foot tho....... as my points indicate!!
Tis a good motor, I would have another one, but not use the franchised dealers!! not good!!!

I second the Marks Tey guy recommendation, I know someone who always had their Audi Serviced there

pd and StevieC,thanks for recommending this John Austin, will try him for the next service.

Any good valeters out there, prefer franchised setups as they ?give a more standardised treatment than the whims of a single branch setup.

Any valeters located in/around East Anglia would be fine.

Impulse buying anything is not generally a good idea.
