I have spotted a 330d se one owner 60k miles silver for around 10k. Basic se spec no leather or sat nav. This car has been home serviced from new? Is immaculate inside and out. Has had new tyres and pads. I'm tempted

I'd really want to be reassured about oil change intervals and oil type used. That Auto will have a warranty - superb, superb car. Glad to see it has fog lamps !

You need to make a judgement on the owner. If he seems to have some 'engineering nous' and knows about cars then it may actually have been better looked after than one with a full dealer history. Ask a few informed questions about grade of oil used, when antifreeze/brake fluid was changed etc etc - he may have receipts. Let his take you for a drive - does he drive it 'sympathetically'?

Car driven very sympathetically by wife, middle aged. Children in early 20s never let out alone in car. Owner is agricultural contractor and all machines kept in top condition. Worry is that BP oil used possibly same spec as going into tractors. I don't think BP did the required spec for 330d. Likely other fluids not changed at all. Hope to get a drive later this afternoon. I have coveted a 330d and would not drive sympathetically! This car was likely 30k new so has lost a lot of money.

Dunno if it cost 30k new given the spec. Believe me once you drive this you will be impressed. I would really question the fluids used. BMW do timed changes on brake fluid.Have any recalls been attended to ? Lots of questions..... Sympathy ? I have none and thrashed the last 3.0 litre BMWs I've had and they came back for more ! Not one mechanical problem with he last three and I don't hang around, like all Beemer 6s they thrive on revs despite being diesels. You woud be struglging to get a low miler on any 330d, the type of drivers that buy are usually high mileage users anyway otherwise they'd buy a petrol engined one !

H'm. My 320d is 5 years old and has 60,000 on the clock. Has all the above spec, full and timely dealership-serviced since new, etc. etc.
Logically would sell for less than the 330d. Which is just one reason why I have no intention of selling it.

Had test drive for about 15 miles along mostly back roads. Car was smooth very stable compared to my xsara but no big surge of power was almost disappointing! Maybe its so well put together that you can't feel how quick it is.
Had two rear shocks replaced but no other work done just routine oil, fuel air filters. Had correct spec oil ok. Has PDC auto wipers, climate, cruise MF steering wheel but basic seats and only a tape player. I'd have to put in a proper sound system. Unless it comes very cheap I'll be keeping my xsara hdi and continuing with project of fitting vts suspension. Was bought for 26 new from local import specialist.

Are you sure there isn't a CD stack in the boot ? Its an easy fit should be pre-wired. The option is an iPod adapter of course. They are quick but possibly not in VTs terms. You should feel a massive turbo kick went FDGLFin on decent A roads.

Foot Down Go Like Flippin 'eck, or wods to that effect. Essentially going very quick !!

The 330D delivers power deceptively. At times you almost need to look at the speedo to see how fast you are accelerating because of the smoothness of the engine and the car in general. Before I bought mine, I drove a Golf GT TDI 140BHP and that felt more "peppy" than the 330D, but I know that isn't more powerful.

I have a 330D Sport and still only have a tape player in the dash, there is a CD changer though. In any case the standard sound system is dire, appaling really. Can't remember ever hearing a factory audio system that bad in any car, much less in one costing as much as BMWs do.

"no big surge of power was almost disappointing!"

Didn't you experience the kick-down then :-) ?

I can get mine fighting for grip if I set my mind to it...which of course I don't :p

I wasn't so much thinking of the engine. Virtually all modern engines take a good mileage and revving them (once warm) does no harm. I was thinking more of harsh gearshifting, knocking into kerbs, very late and hard braking etc. I know lots of people think BMW's are indestructable, but I have seen 100k mi. examples with well-shot suspension and brakes. Its by no means terminal, but can cost a fair bit to bring up to scratch. Similarly, you do get manuals where the 2nd and 3rd synchro's are shot (crunching on gearchange) and propshaft couplings are worn because the driver has been so hard on the clutch and gears. Often the hard-driving first owner doesn't notice, but the second and third owners foot the bill.

Ah I see, I was thinking merely in engine terms.

The complete lack of amazing performance was the first thing I noticed about the 530d.

Then I glanced over at the speedo - it was climbing more rapidly than I'd ever seen it climb before. The car's awesome build quality and complete lack of road noise isolates you from the feeling of speed.

They really are quick.

I know and I can't wait for mine, now been delayed for 6 weeks, should have it before Christmas.
330d March 01 10k? - volcane
My desire for a 330d has been reawakened now that I can actually afford one (just) But I have decided it must have the correct spec. The one currently on ebay is more what I had in mind, now dribbling!!!
330d March 01 10k? - AK76
lack of full service history and an import. I'd leave it for 10k.

it might be nice but could become a sell on issue for you later on.

p.s I have nothing against imports but some traders and buyers do thats all.
330d March 01 10k? - MichaelR
What is the actual reason for some people shying away from parellel imports of cars like BMW's?

Provided the spec is identical, what possible difference does it make? They are all, after all, all imports, as they are all built in Germany!

Some people value imported versions at thousands less even though both cars are identical, only the supplying dealer differs, and warranties etc are unaffected.

Why is this? I understand why imports are worth less if the spec is inferior, or there are warranty implications, but if it's identical in every respect to a UK car and the only way to tell its an import is the pre delivery inspection stamp in the service book what exactly is the problem?

Tell you what might try and deliberately seek out an import if I can get it for less than the UK car!
330d March 01 10k? - Pugugly {P}
For 10k I would by an "import"ed 330d if the mileage, spec and history was right - no qulms. A shedful of car for the money.

Some 3s (mine wasn't) were made in South Africa.
