New tyres have 8mm tread. I got about 15k miles out of my fronts before they were down to about 5mm. However less than 5k miles later they are down to 2mm.

Hence do tyres wear quicker as they lose tread depth...I think so but mate thinks I am imagining things...

This will sound dumb. But surely they must rotate faster as they wear down. I'm talking fractions of fractions difference though.

Of course they do. As the diameter goes down they need to spin faster to travel the same distance!

Its possible, it may be something to do with the tread blocks being more flexible when they are taller.

Wouldn't they get hotter as they wear down? So,increased wear would take place as they are unable to dissipate the heat as quickly.

That's just a supposition as I'm no expert.

RF you have missed out the the fact that altho the actual distance covered per revolution decreases, the distance recorded per revolution - by the odometer, will remain constant IYKWIM!
