The manual says to take it to a dealer. It's the 1.4 HDI, and the turbo unit is in the way on the drivers side. What's the best way to do this? It's a 2001 model (square not round headlamps).

does it not give advice in the manwell?

The manual tells them to take it to a dealer.

You to have price in when buying some VW's that it will cost you a small fortune to change a bulb plus the time and inconvenience.I believe the Passat is just as bad, am given to understand it is a 3 hour job.

A dealer job to change a bulb?! That is absolutely pathetic. Nice one VW.

Fitted bright H7s to my Passat in less than 1 hour.
You do end up with a few scrapes tho.

Unfortunately it's becoming an increasingly common thing. Some Renaults are tricky, Focus C-MAX, Rover 75...

Rover 75...
Ha! Good luck finding a dealer for that one!

Well done Alec,
You must hold the speed record for a Passat H7 bulb change.
How did you re-insert the main beam bulbs?
I'd to use a 20mm socket as I could not reach them apart with finger tips.
My hands are still scabby 11 days later.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

I think I just took the duct off.. three screws and a tug...
Maybe I am lucky I have small hands.

I find this all very odd. How does this stack up against the requirement in some european countries to carry spare bulbs in the car? No use if you can't fit them. Also, I thought there was some EU requirement that bulbs should be replaceable without using tools. Hence the general move to bulb holders within the car, rather than screws to remove lamp glasses. Mind you, the problem sems to be that there is no access, not that tools are required. Is this a way of getting round the problem?
