Just purchased a mk2 Jaguar which had been stripped then painted. i have discovered the chassis plate is missing which should have been rivetted to the nearside inner wing. I do have all the documentation which all seems in order. where can i obtain a replacement chassis plate? Regards Dave.

the only place to get replacement vin plates is main dealers can apply for it from the importer if you produce all docs at the dealer they can order them at a price??? I THINK BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO BOOK IT IN FOF THEM TO FIT IT

you can get vin plate copies made ,the autotrader has an advert from vin tag the company in every issue,have you been in touch with last vendor just in case he forgot to give it to you?while i understand you may want it to keep the car original it is not needed for legal reasons so long as the vin is stamped into the body

Yes, there is a place in Nottingham I had some from. Called 'Just Tags' - or something like that. Wasn't cheap though - I paid £30 for two, IIRC.

If you want it to look authentic, make sure they stamp it really hard with a worn out letter punch set, with all the numbers and letters at odd angles and misaligned. All of my Jaguar plates (bar the machine-made VIN number) have been like this.

Also if you can buy or borrow a copy of the book "Original Jaguar Mk.I and II: The Restorer's Guide" by Nigel Thorley it will show you exactly what the engine bay and the rest of the car should look like.
