Help,I've just put about a litre of petrol in my diesel tank before realising what I had done. I stopped myself filling anymore and filled the remainder of the tank with about 45 litres of diesel.
Do I need to get the tank drained, as I've read the horror stories about filling diesel up with petrol, but I've only put a bit in.
It's a turbo diesel Zafira.

Don't take my word for it (you'll get a lot more helpful replies soon) but I think a litre would be fine.
Try not to worry until someone tells you otherwise. Might be best not using the car yet though just in case.

Shouldn't cause a problem, though check the fuel filter after a couple of hundred miles as the petrol may have washed some carp through.
On older diesels, a 5% mix of petrol is often beneficial.

I read often, only post occasionally

Its really well diluted, you will be fine.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

yes your fine, infact in the army, they ad small amounts of petrol in there diesel engines to clean out the pipes ect.
it would as they say done your engine a favour.

hi Quite a lot of these cases of contaminated fuel wrecking HP Diesel systems. you can be hit with a bill of £2k+ if i was you i would get the tank drained and cleaned, High Pressure - i.e. the new 'common rail' type that run at very high pressures. The tolerances in the pumps etc are quite amazing - basically its aerospace-standard engineering. If lubrication is degraded (by contaminated fuel) then things start to unravel pretty quickly and the whole fuel system falls down. not like the old diesel engines where petrol was used in winter,Its all expensive stuff too

Did the same myself when our CR diesel was pretty new. 2 litres of petrol in 50 litres of derv. Car seems to be OK one year later.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

A litre (2%) of petrol ruining the lubrication properties of derv? Not very likely. BTW, most of your post is cobbled from 2 of Aprilia's on 24 August where you said you had problems with a Zafira. Not very sporting to pinch without acknowledgment.......

That post of mine was meant to refer to Trevs.
|
i coppied the post because i have had probs with my diesel zafira, i was trying to point out the probs you can have with that type of engine, mine is still giving trouble from august after a trace of water found in the fuel filter
