In Luton today I followed a taxi, a Toyota Avensis, which had a sign on the roof saying "taxi licensed for 6 passengers". That must include the driver mustn't it? I couldn't fit six people in my car if I wanted to, and certainly not with a belt each.
Made me think of our lift at work which is the size of a large wardrobe but states capacity 12 people. Oh, and it's made by Schindlers Lifts, which always makes me think of the film of the (nearly ) same name......

The important bit is what's on the plate, not the roof sign.
I suspect that the roof sign had originally been made for an MPV and then transferred to the Avensis.
I also suspect that it was a minicab, not a taxi as most of the taxi's in Luton are black cabs.

Could it of been an Avensis verso? they are a 7 seater so would be plated for 6 passengers.

You'd easily fit 6 in a avensis, but they wouldnt have a belt each!

I think you will find that "6 passengers", means 6 people PLUS the driver i.e. a total of 7. Unless of course the regs. down here are different from up North.
