Having a quandry over what my wife's next lease car should be. She get's a very good subsidised deal from her employing NHS trust. She currently has a Punto Multijet dynamic for which she pays £110 a month fully maintained, 20k per annum.
She will be due for a replacement early next year and we have to start "shopping" now as some cars will have long delivery times. Her mileage means a diesel makes sense (unless fuel prices go really crazy!), and she would like something a little larger and with five doors for convenience (and possibly a future child?). She enjoys driving my Toledo TDI 110 SE.
Having discussed things, we have under consideration a Leon 2.0TDi Sport (would be prefer stylance spec but not available with this engine), Octavia 2.0TDi Elegance, Golf 2.0TDi GT and Alfa 147 1.9 Multijet 150. Any others we should be considering, and should any of these jump to the top of the list? I really like the styling of the new Leon...

Depends on her priorities: is she practically minded or is stylishness the main criterion?
Style over visibility (particularly to the rear)- probably the Leon.
Practicality and visibility - go for the Skoda. In the surveys Skoda have more satisfied owners than the others - by quite a margin. She could save money and go for a Fabia Combi (estate) TDI which is quite roomy and looks to me mnd a bit better than an Octavia. But you only get the 1.9 TDI with tbis one.
Best at holding value - the Golf, but this will figure only if it makes a difference to the leasing cost, which it probably won't because it costs more than the Skoda.
The Alfa - she should try one: she'll either love it or loathe the idiosyncrasies, and reliability and dealer service seems to be variable.

Not sure on the ones you've mentioned, but my wife has the Mazda 2 - very good for access to rear doors and tailgate. There is a diesel option in the range, if it is a diesel you want.

Thanks for the comments. Think the Mazda 2 would be a little small as is in the same class as her current Punto. A little style AND practicality would be nice....I do think the Octavia is a great car but perhaps not the ideal for a 25 year old? I love the Alfa, and we would have no problem with another Italian vehicle, but having said that dealer service on the fiat has not been fantastic, nothing major has gone wrong but niggling faults have taken longer than they should to be put right.

So maybe she should try the Golf, the Alfa and the Mazda 3 (though the Mazda diesel I think is only a 1.6).
I hope you'll let us know what she eventually goes for.

Suggestions: Mazda3 with the 110 PS diesel engine, or hang on till the new Honda Civic is available with the same 2.2 CTDi diesel engine as the current Accord. A diesel-powered 143 bhp Mazda6 hatchback or estate might even be within reach, either of which would top my list if I had the money for a new car! Agree with suggestion of the current Octavia, but not yet sure about the looks of the new Leon, which I've only seen in photos - not a fan of the appearance of the Altea to which it is very similar, but maybe the comparitively lower height of the Leon means it won't look too tall.
