The two front tyres on my 2001 Vectra will need replacing before long - still legal but wouldn't want to go too far before the wet weather comes.
The car has the orignal Michelin Pilots and I would probably go for Michelin again but I think that I have seen some with Goodyear NCT5s.
Any recommendations - noise, wear, etc? or other suggestions?

What size are they? I found the Bridgestone RE720 to be a very good all-round tyre - seemed to wear very well yet had excellent grip in the wet. I'd have them on my current car except they don't so the right size.

Just had the fronts replaced on my 2001 Astra. The original Michelins (Pilot HX?) are no longer available so had to go for the Pilot Primacy. The main downside I found was the cost - one of the most expensive of all the possible tyres I could have gone for. On the other hand the originals had lasted well, 38,000 miles and they still had 2.5mm left at replacement time. Have been quite happy with the originals which made me go for Michelins again.

I found Continentals to be much quieter than the original fit and they lasted well.

They are 205/55/16 V rated
I've had two prices for Michelin Pilot Primacy at £90 and £100 each fully fitted. I prefer known brands for the bits that keep me on the road. Currently have 39k on all tyres but the front are getting low aso will want to change before winter.

Just goes to show that a manufacturer doesn't stick to one particular brand. My old Vectra-B (yr 2000) had Firestones as the original boots all round.

My Vectra from new was fitted with Dunlop which were OK regarding handling but were noisy and wore quickly.
Was recommended Toyo and have since used nothing else and found them excellent in all respects.

Having personally experienced aquaplaning in the past, my own priority when buying tyres is wet performance. I'm prepared to sacrifice a little wear or noise for that extra margin of safety.
If they are available in your size, then my favourites are the Goodyear Eagle F1. I have these on my Rover Vitesse Sport and can thoroughly recommend them. They just lap up the kind of road conditions we had yesterday. Many tyre test reports put them at the top of the heap for wet performance too.
Otherwise I would suggest ContiEcoContacts. I've driven a number of Focuses with different tyre makes on, but my current 2.0litre has Contis. They are far and away better than the other makes I've experienced in the wet and quieter in the dry. This observation is bourne out by the results of this months Auto Express tyre test, though the winner was Vredestein HiTrac with superb wet performances.

The size you have is fairly common - same as my Audi and mytyres are showing 157 matches to this size! The Audi currently has Michelins fitted, but when replacement time comes I'll be getting quotes for Toyo Proxes. Had them on my A2 and they were much better than the factory fitted Dunlop 9000s in terms of test results and actual handling and road noise.

I have have had Continental EcoContacts on my Vectra for over 30K miles and have found them to be an excellent all round performer. They are also a good compromise between the Michelins fitted origally but expensive to replace and Avons which were cheaper but not so good. I am just about to fit two more EcoContacts to replace the worn the ones on the car now.

After going through various different tyres on other cars Firestone FS's and Dunlop SP Sports, I ended up with Bridgestone RE720.
These ar now on my Mondeo (205/55/16). They grip better than the NCT5 that it came with especially in the wet and around corners.
The RE720's are slightly 'noisier'. The ones on the front have done 15,000 miles and still have 5mm of profile left. About £80 fully fitted.
