Seem to have saved myself some money ordering tyres on the internet from 'My Tyres'.
Most of of the quotes I got where for about £155 - £180 fitted and balanced (2 tyres). This was for my preferred tyre (an H rated Pirelli P6000).
My tyres delivered two of these to my house (including delivery) for £86 and a local fitter (with an agreement with My Tyres) fitted both for £12. A total of £98 instead of £155 - £180.

Do yo mean this site??

what size were they, and what area of the country do you live in.
|
P6000's were actually somebodys *preffered* choice? I thought they were only the preferred choice of penny pinching manufacturers who can't risk not putting a premium brand tyre on a car, but don't want to shell out for a good one :D
|
Nothing wrong with P6000's, they have been around a while and don't have the most attractive tread pattern - if that matters to you - but are no worse for it.
|
They transformed my Escort when i changed to them from (i think) Dunlops, especially in the wet there is loads more grip.
I got two 185/60/R14's from Northway Tyres, Watford for £96 all-in, which was a LOT cheaper than anywhere else nearby.

I can also recommend Mytyres. Got a full set of Toyo Proxies for £210 for my Coupe. Even including the fitting fee (£8 a corner at my local ATS) this comes out at slightly more than half what I could have got them (or any other decent tyre) for elsewhere.
Can recommend the Toyo's too actually, a fantastic tyre.
On the subject of P6000's, I know a fair few people who have had them, and would not again. Leave a lot to be desired in the wet apparently. I know this contradicts what you've said Hawesy, but of course it's all relative to what you've had before.
|
I've often quoted the mytyres price to get discount at local stockists and have usually got within £20 of their price.
|
I've found www.valuetyres.co.uk to be the best so far all-round.

Bazza:
By all means contradict me. My experience of them is on a fairly low powered (90bhp) car, on bog standard wheels. Compared to the budget/very cheap brand name tyres that my car was wearing beforehand, there was a world of difference, ESPECIALLY in the wet.
Compared to the Avons i had on my previous car (also 90bhp and same size wheels, but a Pug 306), i can't really tell the difference in tyre ability, even though the 306 chassis itself was vastly superior.
Perhaps the P6000's do not do so well on the larger, wider wheels of modern repmobiles etc?
|
I've also had a good experience with Toyo Proxes, but mytyres couldn't beat my local fitter for price.
|
Can echo the experience with Toyos, they have miles of grip and you can brake painfully hard in the wet without triggering the ABS. I have to admit to being particulary sad and testing the stopping power of new tyres on an empty road...

I can well believe that you're right Hawesy. All of the people I'm referring to had the tyres on Alfas or Fiat Coupes, and were after 'high performance' tyres.

After three purchases for different cars, I am very pleassed with Mytyres. One of the great things about the site is you can get tyres not readily available in the UK, especially winter tyres. I bought a set of Nokian tyres two years ago from the site for my brother-in-law's Mercedes 300SE. He e-mailed this morning to say he had just bought another similar set off the site for just £6 more than the first lot which have completed 32,000 miles and still passed an MoT inspection last month. The difference with these tyres is that they have an extra ply in the sidewall for big cars like the S series. Nokian are also helpful and called me from Finland when I e-mailed them for advice last time around.
