A friend has the chance to buy a new Rover 75 at not much more than half list price, with a two-year warranty. Should he go ahead?

Which model in the range?
|
Don't know yet, as the discussion is very preliminary, but the list prices is around £22k. You obviously have an opinion on their relative merits, so which is the one to go for and which to avoid?

*umm* Buy a car which has as many toys and gadgets (spec) as possible? otherwise, you might be better off buying a new Octavia for the same price (as an example).

Im not plain stupid, just a special kind of stoopid.

I'd be looking for one of the higher spec ones in terms of trim - Club SE, Connoisseur, Connoisseur SE (wait, didn't Rover rename those trim levels last year? Check in the Car-by-Car Breakdown link on the left). Personally I'd be going for the CDTi diesel engine which puts out 135 bhp. It's a BMW unit which means that parts etc for the engine shouldn't be an issue, and it's the more powerful of the two levels of tune that were available. The less powerful one (115 bhp) didn't really have enough shove, I've test-driven a couple of those and wasn't impressed with that aspect of the car when compared to my Passat TDi 110.
