Hi all
My landlord has employed a team of builders to redo the landscape since last week. i stupidly left my new VW golf in the garage despite it being used for electrical access and also for those people to deposit their tools when they are finished. this morning to my horror i discovered that there is some fairly deep scratches on the rear wing just adjacent to where they have put the cement mixer.
what should i do? i am on reasonably good terms with my landlord and wouldn't want to sour the relationship. on the other hand i am simply annoyed that it may be difficult to get the scratch repaired such that you would not know that it was there. the colour is metallic silver, i wonder how much would the VW bodyshop charge?
many thanks for your opinions

There are two ways to deal. (not in any particular order)
1. Get repaired, pay for it and forget about it.
2. Start talking with your landlord at the earliest stage, chances are that he will be just as browned off as you are. Have you spoken to the builders ?

Not certain on this, but I think builders. And any other tradesmen should have insurance covering any damage they do while on your premises. It is these people you need to speak to. your landlord will/should have gone into this before taking on any company to do the work.If they havent And again not certain.you may be able to claim from them??

All PROPER builders will have Public Liability Insurance.

"will have gone into this before taking on any company to do the work"
If only people did that !

The problem is that you now have to prove it.

this is probably going to be their get-out clause, would photographs be enough as evidence? i.e. cement mixer parked beside the car with the scratch at the same level?
|
|
I doubt it. Circumstantial evidence. However, the mere threat could cause the builder to cough up.

Personal approach initially.....before going into the world of litigation and reconstructions. (why did I say that ? There goes next year's holiday....!)
