i have a 2001 406 1.8ltr , when reversing it sometimes jumps out of gear i have been tol it could be the gear box on the way out can any one help ? .

If its a worn synchro/selector fault.its a gearbox strip down.It could even be damaged gear linkage. On that date I doubt worn?.Just a thought. But would suspect box stripdown is needed

Could be worn engine/gearbox mounts, allowing excessive movement and affecting the linkage. If it has synchro on reverse(most cars do not as you are not usually moving when engaging reverse)it would not affect it staying in gear. However a worn detent would.
