When buying optional extras after a car has been purchased, do dealers give discounts when asked? Just wondered whether its the same as asking for a discount when buying a car.
Cheers

Yep haggle away - all dealers have margin on parts, options and extra's although if you have placed the order and are in effect a captive market your not in the best position to haggle

Only 1 way to find out, after all.

Definitely haggle! you have more clout as a customer than the sales team in the building!
something you will be interested to know - in most dealerships, or certainly the ones i have worked in, the sales team are almost like a seperate shop to the parts desk. They are independent businesses - sales pay retail rates for service parts etc..

Yep we're all part of the same company but sales, service and parts all have their own budgets and targets to meet.

Thanks for the replies! Would it be better to go through the service/parts department or sales (or doesn't it matter)? I would want them to install the optional extra for me.

What's the extra? It may make more sense to have it as a change to the factory order, e.g., alloy wheels or an upgraded stereo are usually much cheaper as an upgrade (though still profitable) than as standalone parts.
Other things (e.g., a tow bar) may only be available as dealer fit accessories, or through an independent.
