Mondeo Water temp indicator - bikemade3
For the last 5 years my Mondeo 1.8TD water temp gauge has sat spot on the N of Normal. But for the last 2 weeks it's sat off the N and at times just off the end of the cold shading, especially if it's being driven on part or light throttle. However if it gets booted for a while then the gauge comes back to where it's been expected. It uses no water, warms up as expected and i get good heat out of the heater, however continued use of the heater can cause the temp indicator to drop.

It had a anti freeze change last year with the cam belt, i,m thinking about changing the engine temp sender as the stat appears to be working correctly. Anyone else had a similair problem before i whip the sender out or is it just a winter tthing that i've never noticed before?

The thermostat controls engine temp. The sender only reports to guage what the temp is..From what you have said. Its the thermostat that is causing your problem Ie blower will act as radiator fan.cooling system down without any control from stat..

Steve,
Thanks for that, so the problem could be the Stat's not closing to keep hot water in the block. I always thought they operated to be either fully open or fully shut and as such did not assume a semi open/shut position.
