Directional tyres on a Triumph - Rover Boy
Hi,

I'm a little late with this posting..

On last Saturdays' Daily Telegraph Motoring section (26/02/05) there was a photo of the delectable Suzi Perry astride a Triumph Bonneville. Well, several photos, actually. The front tyre was obviously directional, and quite obviously fitted the wrong way round. The wrong way to car drivers, anyway. The V shaped tread was pointing away from the direction of travel. In all directional car tyres I've had the V, when viewed from the top of the tyre, points in the direction of travel. That is when you're going forwards.

Is this correct, wrong, uninteresting?

Rgds.

Tread pattern is designed to in the wet.when compressed ie as tyre is under load.Soak up any water it comes across. When it unloads weight from vehicle.Water is then thrown away from tyre.Giving the grip you need..If tyre is fitted the wrong way round. It has the opposite effect. In dry conditions could still cause problems.I think has been mentioned here before?

Motorcycle tyres have an arrow on the sidewall - not visible in the pictures, marked 'Wheel rotation', or 'Front wheel rotation'.
Some tyres, depending on the bike, can be fitted either front or rear. It's to do with whether the wheel is driving or driven.
Don't know why. Different forces, I think.

FWIW tractor tyres are always fitted as per Roverboy's description. I imagine that is to do with grip rather than roadholding.
