Why the question?
If the idea is to get your own 'kit', so that yopu can have a few toots, and then 'blow in the bag' to ensure that you aren't over the limit, you are walking a very fine line. You MAY be 'just under', but that reading could change in half an hour or so, UPWARDS, depending on your alcoahol absorbtion rate and metabolism.
Best to stay off the hooch altogether if you are going to be behind the wheel, OR do as I used to - one pint of 'normal' beer, and at halfway, start topping it up with non-alcohol stuff.
That way you end up having a beer but it gets progressively 'watered' down as you keep topping it up at halfway.
You enjoy yourself, but without the risks of DD. (and no hangover!)

The Federales in the UK used to use a Lion Intoximeter. Whatever it is its calibrated regularly.

The only accurate best one is the one used by the boys in blue as that is the one that will cost you your license.

You dont want to go near that one.

NEVER drink and drive the same evening, but was concerned about "the morning after" where you may think your O.K., but in reality?????

Purchased a CA2000 Digital Alcohol Detector from the web, google it, you should find it, not the cheapest about £70/80.

Have had some "suprising" results, be very, very careful if you've had a "skinful" the night before. It has sometimes been as late as 11/12 a.m before showing clear, bearing in mind that any alcohol remaining in your bloodstream has an affect on your driving.

I knew u'd get the do-gooders saying never drink and drive but it's not black and white like that.

how long do u have to wait before you drive?

my situation the saturday morning after the friday night session:

we all go on a session friday night then get up nxt day to go to the football, about 1pm you get pressure put on you to drive.

The answer to that question depends on a number of things about you. ie weight, metabolism etc and cannot be estimated.

However, it is a very sensible question. Obviously you're not stupid enough to drive straight after 10 pints but need to know how long it takes the alcohole to exit the body.

If you know you're likely to need to drive the following day, then personally I would drink in moderation the night before, or stick to the lemonade.

There are several sets of guidelines on how long it takes alohole to exit the body for the average human. I'm not even going to try to repeat them here. Your best course of action is to direct those questions to someone who may be able to give you something close to an answer, like a doctor.

At least you have thought about the day after though. Too many people assume that just because the sun has risen again they're OK to drive. This is often not the case, as you indicate.

This is one of those situations IMO where you need to use careful and informed judgement, rather than relying on some cheap bit of kit from E bay or similar to avoid killing yourself, someone else or a bus queue.

I know its not always this easy, but if you are ever in doubt the morning after, but feel that the journey you are going to take is a MUST, then think about this.

If you are over the limit and caught, you will not be able to drive that journey for at least a year, you may lose your job, you may put the roof over your head at risk and, you definitely will put an unbearable strain on your family and personal relationships.

Sure that journey was a MUST?

>>Men think it will take seven hours to be completely safe to drive and younger drivers - 18 to 29-year-olds - believe they can drive after six hours.

However, the report states, medical research shows that it can take around 12 hours to be sober enough to drive after drinking four prints of continental lager or ale.

Direct Line spokeswoman Emma Holyer said: "Many people forget that they are still not sober enough to drive after having a night's sleep.

Sorry, hit the button a bit early.
More at motoring.independent.co.uk/features/story.jsp?stor...1
Mentions products for testing. Also a site that will probably fall foul of the filter but calculates on your weight, consumption etc etc. (looks like if you can fill in the questions you have to be sober) Will is work, or will it be censored?

thats a good article, cheers martin123.

I think if people knew the score and had a breathalizer in their house they wouldn't risk it.

thats why i wanted to buy one.

but most people aint got a clue what the limit is and if they're over or not. I don't feel drunk till i've had about 6 pints I presume thats well over the driving limit.

I imagine people just go by how they feel at that moment in time.
but not me, I am dead paranoid about it thats why I want to get a breathaliser.
I had a row with my mates last week, i've missed out on some arsenal tickets cos I didn't want to drive cos i felt rough as a badgers.

"24 hours between bottle and throttle."

Probably the best advice here!

A little planning before you go out and have a skinful goes a long way IMO.

i have a breath analizer (?spelling) and agree with bobby g above but if that journey is a must i can at least check if not absolutely clear on my machine then i wont take the risk it just helps to give that little bit more peace of mind if the machine shows absolutely no trace of alcohol i feel better as it's usually next afternoon when you feel fine appear fine but you still hear the stories of other people who have gone out thinking they were ok next day only to get stopped and find they are still over i will only drive if the machine i use shows no trace at all as i dont know it's true accuracy i wont take chances if it shows anything at all...cheers...keo
