New car - fivebyfive
Hey, Just got a new car. All insurence has been sorted but tax does not start till tommrow.
I want to take it for a drive around the block. As it is not taxed till tommrow does this mean that the insurence is not valid until then?

Thanks

Your insurance is valid, as per your policy.

Your car is NOT road legal, as far as the law is concerned.

Wait 'till midnight!!

PS What car is it, then?

Not sure that I understand this one. RFL discs have only an expiry date not a 'valid from' date. If you've got the disc, then I don't know how the car can be considered to be without tax. I am sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong....

I'm with Dilbert on this one. I don't see why you cant but the disc in the day before. I did it at the end of December as it was New Years Eve and I knew that I'd be too hung over to even thing about, or remember for that matter, putting the disc in on the 1st. I'm sure its preferrable to have a disc in it a day early than none at all or one that has expired.

From DVLA's site:

"When can I apply for a licence?
You can submit your application from the 15th day of the month in which the existing vehicle licence is due to expire. The licence will come into force on the first day of the following month and should not be displayed on your vehicle until then."

You're just going to have to wait....!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

The two things are not related. Your insurance starts when it starts, irrespective of whether or not it has tax.
