Pirelli P6000 tyres - E.F.Webb
I have a VW Golf 1.9 diesel estate which came to me with 5 - 185.60 Pirelli P.6000 tyres. Only one Pirelli remains, as spare, after six punctures in eight months and about 9000 miles.
A local tyre specialist suggests that these tyres have a known poor record in this respect.
Is this a true assessment?

In a word, "NO!"
It is probably tempting fate to say this, but I have had P6000's on my Focus for 14 months & covered 17000 miles without a puncture, & know of others with similar experience. They are grip very well, esp in the wet, but are rather expensive to replace & wear a bit quicker than I'd expected(fronts replaced at 14k) - but you can't have everything!

Were the punctures due to sidewall damage? I don't mean to offend, but any driver who regularly bounces on and off kerbs can expect problems. Certain types of road humps can also be bad news, especially the small ones you can just about drive over if you judge it right. Every time you do this you risk damage to the inner sidewalls of your tyres.

I go with HJ's remarks.

I also have a personal theory (based also on anecdotal evidence from an insider) that some less scrupulous tyre suppliers chuck handfuls of screws or nails around in car parks near their premises. Anyone using the facility daily is therefore likely to find a flat and go to their nearest fitter. Hey Presto - instant business!

Maybe this would be a good subject on its own!
