1986 Cavalier 1.8 GLi. Wolf in sheep's clothing as it looked like a boggo repmobile and went like an SRi. Paid £2995 for it in 1989 with 42k on the clock and ran it for two years until I got a company car, which neatly coincided with me putting the Cav into a ditch.
Oh how I laughed.....

Not directly owned by me but sourced by me for our office "pool" car. 1995 Cavalier SRi which cost 480 quid in August. It has had 6000 miles put on its original 154000. Costs to date. 3 wiper blades. ( 2Bosch one cheapie for the back) 1 Headlampp bulb and 1 sidelight bulb. 1 Litre of oil oh and petrol. Some yob kicked off its door mirror today. It clicked back. If that had been the Beemer I would have been much the poorer.

Renault 11 GTL, cost around £2500 with 60k on the clock and 3 years old on a B plate. I actually did a deal on a kit car (Pimlico) I had. A US serviceman from Banbury wanted the kit car and offered me the Renault plus £200. I took it
The car cost me a total of £400 to £500 in servicing and repairs (I did most of it myself) over 5 years. The only breakdown - lack of fuel. Oh those heady days of being a student!
Sold 5 years later for £750 to a chap who had a BMW 3 series that was killing him on insurance.
Another example, My current Land Rover Discovery 200 TDi K reg. Excellent reliability, though it has been well looked after. K reg, bought for £3K last year Mileage 93k when I bought it. Flew through last MOT - no faults! Though I suspect will need a few bits for this one. I'm going to spend a few quid on the bodywork next year, and possibly fit an uprated intercooler.
Oh and the wife's Nissan Almera 1.6 SLX auto on a T is a contender as well. Cost us £2k in May at 24k. She recently parked it in a wall requiring repair of all the really bad bits on the front end, so it now looks like new!

Mitsubishi Galant GTI, bought for 4k 9 years ago. G plater with 60k on the clock. all electrics, cruise etc.
Did 90k in it, and the only non-consumable that was replaced was the radiator. Changed the oil twice. Drove it to spain and back, never missed a beat. Always started first go. Built like Mercedes used to be.
got £50 when I traded it in a couple of Octobers ago.

1989 Peugeot 405 1.9SRi. My first 'real' car after rattling around in a metro for 3 years to earn some NCB. Paid £3000 for it (in 1995) with 54000 on the clock. Brilliant chassis and all ally 125bhp engine in a car that weighed just over a tonne. Did all my own servicing (except 24000 mile cambelts) and learnt a lot about Peugeot electrics. Took the mileage up to 110000 and then traded it in. Should then have brought an Mi16 but got a Scirroco instead.

Alfa 75 Twin Spark LE 92J Brought for £ 5,000 in 96 with 56K Miles ran to 112K miles in 1999 with generally standard servicing. Still went like hell when I sold it and also looked a million dollars. No rust (HJ CBCB is wrong they don't rust). Sold because it needed various bits done to it and I'd just come into money. Cost me overall for everything 22p per mile.
Brought a Subaru Legacy 2.5 4Cam estate to replace it and bitterly regretted it. After various other near new cars, now running another Alfa and finally have made a sensible decision.

Best? Maybe not- but relable and exciting- a 1990 VW Corrado G60 purchased in 1991 for ~£7000 IIRC. The pick up from the supercharger was tremewndous and made overtaking a doddle except when a truck driver deliberately tried to put me in a ditch.
Twice.
