Could anyone please tell me how to reset the service indicator on the BMW compact I don't want to go to the main dealer I don't trust them.

A quick google found this:-
bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e36/740950-3.html
Not sure if it works or not though.

The info in the link posted by Dynamic Dave works well and costs absolutely nothing...assuming you don't have to actually buy a 5inch length of electrical wire to short the pins. I used one of the probe leads from my multi tester so basically anything that conducts current should work (bent coat hanger?).
If you search about on the net a bit more you will find various write-ups on the procedure, including pics that identify which pins you need to short.
