Hi all,
Just a quickie,
My mate is picking up a 53 Plate Mondeo from Carcraft tonight but the car doesn't have any tax. He rang me to ask me if this was ok and said that Carcraft said that because they owned it, and with it being a new car (to my mate) he was allowed a certain amount of time (I think 6 days) to tax the car.
Is this right because it doesn't sound it to me but I figured you wise lot would know.
Many thanks (the quicker to better - sorry to pester!)

I would not pick it up until Carcraft tax it.
I think it is an offence to use or park a vehicle on the public highway without displaying a valid road fund licence.
A quick call to DVLA would confirm this.

No exceptions, as far as I'm aware. Drive it or keep it on the road, and it must have a valid tax disc. I've had this problem picking untaxed stuff up from auctions, but it's the risk you take... Naughty Carcraft!

If you are unlucky enough to go through any camera linked to PNC/DVLA you will be got. Backduty would be a question as well. I wouldn't risk it.

Whenever you buy a vehicle from a dealer there is usually the runaroudn the mill with insurance then tax etc. I very much doubt that this outfit will have found a legal loophole that franchised dealers have not.

Many thanks for that everyone. I think he stuck to his guns and is buying it today.
Again, thanks for your invaluable help.
