Great to see such a favourable review of a Citroen. I won't feel so alone in my support of this marque any longer. It is a great disappointment, however, that there is not a diesel automatic in the range, as my wife has to have an automatic. I think this is a startling omission, given that there are so many diesel autos around these days.
On a brighter note though, there are discounts available already at drivethedeal.com, which makes it a much more attractive buy than the new Focus.

In more than one sense!
Can't believe I just paid a compliment to Citroen.
Yikes.

Anyone seen the C4 TV advert - where the car's components morph into a "Power Ranger" type mech being and start dancing.
Its a great advert, though its a shame that all the moves are from Saturday Night Fever....

Thanks for the review, HJ.
I wonder whether this car will mark a break with Citroen's policy of offering huge discounts on everything it sells in this country. Having a reputation for being a bargain basement marque can't possibly be good for Citroen in the long term.
And I'd be interested to know how you rate the 1.6 petrol engine compared with the Ford equivalent.

Great for the owners though! Good discounts are already available, which is not the case with the new Focus.

I like the new C4, and I'm going to enquire with a local dealer about a test drive.
However, I love my Mondeo TDCi in every area bar the physical size of the thing. I regularly have to park in multi-storey car parks and yesterday came back to it for the 2nd time in 3 months to find someone had parked so close I couldn't get in through the drivers door and had to suffer the indignity of climbing over from the passenger side. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've needed something quite so big. I love the power, the economy, the refinement, the seats are comfortable and it handles well - will I sacrifice in these areas if I swap it for a C4?
I've tried a smaller car - I had a Focus for 8 months and hated the thing. It was uncomfortable, unbearably noisy and ride was far too hard for my liking.
I'd like a smaller car, but I want similar attributes to what I get from the Mondeo. Is the C4 the car to fit the bill? I've tried a new Golf and thought the ride was no good, the A3 is too expensive and I don't like the BMW 1 series.

Yes, saw it about a week ago - thought it was an advert for transformer type toys at first (having the sound muted as usual during the break).
Almost as good as the Honda ads.

Bonkers marketing.
Why would anyone want a car that transforms into a dancing robot?
Perhaps we should have a Back room poll on the subject.
What abstract feature of the TV advert first attracted you to your car?

Especially that they already have 4 speed automatic gearbox for their HDi engines and offer them with C5. Technology and ready made units are there, why not use it. Why oh why are the frenchies so stubborn. Diesel automatics throughout the range make so much more sense than petrol automatics.
|
I couldn't agree more. I have always thought it odd that a diesel automatic hasn't been offered in the 307 range too.
The Focus range now has one, as does the Astra range, and they have been in the VAG cars for some time.
|
No, I am wrong about the Astra, as the autos are only available in the petrol versions, which is, again, rather disappointing.
|
I think it looks stylish and quite sporty - bit like the soon to be replaced Seat Leon, which I've always liked. Can't say I like the replacement Leon - looks like some sort of dumpy mini MPV.
When I replace my current car I'm going to consider Citroen now that they've got this and the revamped C5

Damn, damn, damn, - if you all like it so much I'll not be able to buy my bargain basement, heavily depreciated second hand C4 HDi in a couple of years! Come on guys, it's a Citroen, it's French, surely it can't be that good. On the other hand perhaps if you all go out and buy one there'll be plenty around in 2 years when SWMBO's Xantia HDi exclusive will need replacing. So, 1.6 110 HDi, silver or blue (she likes blue cars), keep it for 2 years, do about 30 - 40k in it (just run in!)and trade in for a new one please (or advertise on HJ classified)
|
You might have to fight me for it, though I'm not so fussy about colour... had a spin this morning in one (admittedly a fully loaded 2.0 HDi VTS) and it was rather gorgeous. Seriously quick, nice ride, very high quality avant garde interior (unrecognisable for Citroen), very comfy seats and a booming JBL sound system. Know what I'll be getting after the Megane I haven't even bought yet...
