Fiesta Red Key - nirana solutions
Hi...I have recently purchased a 1996 p reg (facelift) Ford Fiesta. I have 2 questions relating to the red key.

1. Should I have one (I dont)ie was this vehicle originally supplied with one.

2. What are the consequences potential problems of not having one ?

many thanks

Don't lose the key! I think on the Mark 4's you never needed a red key but I stand to be corrected.

I have a 96 fiesta on an N plate. Do not lose this key.
It is the master and all copies/extra keys have to be made from this as it contains a special code for the in built engine immobiliser which allows the engine to be started when you use a key which it recognises a correct code from. If you haven't got a spare key get one sharpish I wouldn't like to think of the cost should you lose the red key!

Both replies do not understand my question...

I DO NOT have a red key. What are the consequences of this ???

A-ha!!!

Yes you should have been given a red key, as I said previously it holds vital data on starting the engine.
2 Options:

1)Go to Ford (Prepare to hand over a large sum) as you will probably need a new Anti Theft Device fitted with a corresponding red key and then get a copy made from this (If spares ones don't already come in the price) But this may also involve changing door and boot lock cylinders to accomodate new key

or

2) Treat the key you have know like a Jackpot winning lottery ticket as (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) but you can't make copies from this already duplicate key

Hello.

If he purchased the car from a dealership he should visit them or call them to query why there is no red key.

I meant what Steveo said in his second point:

DON'T LOSE THE KEY YOU ALREADY HAVE!
