Just noticed that at the top of the page, the number of posts is 123489.

Its not like my learned backroom colleagues to miss a landmark post, namely 123456!!

Who got it?

Or do I need to get out more? :)

OK OK, we have had a bit of a night over here in the steamy tropics watching Aussie Rules on satellite and giving the VB and the Long Flat Merlot a bit of a rev-up in the process. Dammit Collingwood should have done better.

Miss Philippines stayed on the cranberry juice as is clearly stated in her job description and drove us home.

Oh yeah... I just worked out how to view posts in hidden forums. The mods may want to close that little security hole.

Excuse the ignorance, but how do you know what number each post is? It tells you the number when you are posting, but how can you tell just by viewing?

Just kidding. There is a way, but I'm not going into it until one of the mods confirms that they've closed their little security hole. Although it does appear to be closed now, as far as I can tell.

For the sake of information, it looks to me like it was Dynamic Dave who got post 123456. Perhaps someone with a better working knowledge of the forum could confirm that. If anyone cares.

p.s. don't forget that the number of posts at the top refers to just discussion, where as the notes are actually numbered across Technical Matters, Discussion and the Forum Archive.

That's not the post I was referring to. Though I think I probably got my sums wrong.

I calculated a difference between the post number and the total posts, and used that to calculate which was post 123456. But my assumption was that a 130000 or so posts had been deleted or archived etc, not that the ID was an ID across the whole forum. If that makes sense. The post I found was in a hidden forum.

But your post 123456 was from ages ago. That's post 123456 across the whole Back Room, not just Discussion. Am I right?

Oh, and you were right. Post 123456 as referred to above is across the whole site, including the archives, discussion, classifieds etc. I'm currently referring to post 256994 of the total posts still available on this site.
