No, the part is not the same. I can also be 99% certain that the part which is leaking is the ram. This is very easy to replace as you have to take it off anyway to have any chance of getting the rack out of the car. Its only about £40 from somewhere like GSF.

i was looking at the ram it looks easy to remove i was thinking that it could just be the seal in the ram leaking i was going to remove it and take it and get the seal replaced any idea what size the star key is holding this ram on allways something what stops us lol

I cant remember offhand the size of the bolt, I used the biggest allen key I had. It fitted perfectly! On two cars I have removed the racks on, I have found that the pipework going to and from the ram was easiest to take off at the steering pinion itself and not the ram. Its fiddly to get to on the pinion but usually comes off without a problem. Try and get it off at the ram and you may round off the pipe unions.
To get the ram off, undo the nut at the end and remove the bolt. Then apply full righthand lock so the ram is extended. You may need to pry the end off as its a very tight fit on the stud.
Any other problems, just ask, its a job I've done several times and getting quite good at!

i was trying to get the pipe lose in the ram itself no luck ill try the pipes what go into the block who recons the rams or is it a easy job to fit seals
|
I dont think anybody could do the seals in the ram. The rack itself doesn't have seals as the fluid only goes through the pinion and into the ram. A new ram is £64 from somewhere like German Swedish and French, this would probably be the best and easiest option.

thanks for all your help Ross_D am going to take the ram to a few places i know see if the seal can be fixed if not theres a pug 306 in scrapyard near me full rack for 20 pounds ill ask them to remove the rack saves me messing around :)

You won't be able to service the seals in the ram. New ones are about £120+VAT
Fiddly job to change but not too bad; the connections being the awkward bit! Just make sure you don't cross-thread them.

The trouble is, with one from a scrapyard you have no assurances that its any better than the leaky one you have! As DL says a new one would be the only option. As I mentioned in a previous post, they can be had for about £65 + vat from somewhere like GSF.
