I was sat at home on Friday and became aware of a less than roadworthy vehicle coming up the street - it sounded like the exhaust had fallen off the H reg Micra! It crawled past our house with the driver revving the engine and slipping the clutch just to get it up the hill.
On this occasion the car was being followed by the police. Driver was told to go in to a side street. The driver was asked a few questions, but it quickly became evident the driver's English was limited. The policeman asked if the driver was insured, he couldn't answer. PNC check seemed to suggest no insurance on vehicle. The driver was carted away and car removed within 30 minutes - is this a record?

I think it probably is. The police arrested a man on my road for drink driving; the car also had no tax. Rather than park the car on the road, the police parked it on my driveway - blocking access to my house! Their reason? It didn't have tax so they couldn't leave it on the road. All I found was a scribbled note which they posted through my door informing me that the driver would be back to collect 'at some point after he had been released.'

That is absolutely outrageous Abbie!
I would send them a bill @£10 per hour for the parking and write a separate letter of complaint to the chief constable.

Difficult to work out if you're being sarcastic, frostbite!
Monday morning, in Westminster near Lancaster Gate. Residents parking starts 8.30am.
8.30am, traffic warden writing ticket for car.
8.40am I go past again, and the car has already been lifted onto a tow truck.
Is this a record?

Not even a little t-i-c!
As I read it, Plod has removed an illegal vehicle from the road and illegally dumped it on private property without seeking the owner's consent.

Oh yes I like that!!
However the charge should be directed at the car owner. No sure how you would get their details though?
