Citroen C5 shudder and vibration - herdsman
I have a 2001 C5 HDI it has done 40000 miles. At about 38k miles i started to experience a vibtration through the pedals, me local dealers relpaced the clutch. This has not solved the problem. I have replaced all tyres now pirelli p6000 and the wheel have been balanced twice and i have had it confirmed the balance is correct by third garage.

Now the dealership blame my tyres. The shudder starts around 50mph and gets worse the faster you go. It is unbearable at 75mph. You feel the shudder through the whole car.

Has anyone else suffered this problem?

Thanks

If the front wheels are unbalanced then you will normally feel the vibration through the steering wheel. If the rear wheels are unbalanced you'll probably feel the vibration through your seat.

I have had difficulties getting Pirelli P6000 tyres balanced in the past.

I have only used Michelin Pilots on my C5 (as per original equipment)and have had no problems whatsoever. If dealers are convinced that the tyres are to blame why not ask them to substitute 4 wheels and tyres from another C5 temporarily to prove the point - or otherwise.

Is the car still under warranty?

Thanks for replying.

My car manufactures warranty ran out in July of this year. I bought the car at the beginning or July, and there was no vibration or shudder apparant at this time. When i bought the car the tyres on the front were 2 different budget makes and 2 michellin on the back. As soon as i got the car i changed the front tyres and the shudder was not apparant.

The vibration started after i had the gear selector cables changed. The garage insists it is not conected and blamed having two different makes of tyres on the car. Hence why i changed the back tyres. They are still insisting its the tyres but cannot explain why they think that.

From your description of the shudder I would be looking for something drivetrain related. Perhaps a driveshaft/CV joint fault or something not right with the gearbox mounting or its alignment.
