BMW 5 Series - Mark (RLBS)
I think the new 5 series looks just like an Alfa from the front.

I agree that the back end is a bit heavy though.

Also, I was playing with a Z8 this lunch time. I rather like it - although it looks just like a very modern E-type.

Personally always thought that the 3 and 5 always looked better in estate guise.

The rear of the 5 estate looks so much less of a mess than the saloon. The headlights seem to fit the shape better as well. Quite tempted to change my current 5 touring but am put off by not having any rubbing strips on the doors. Not a problem on the face of it but living in London.......

Z8 doesn't look bad. Doesn't it only have a 5 speed 'box and some quite old under pinnings? Like the rear light cluster though.

Still have mixed feelings about the new 5 and 7 BeeEmms' styling - do like the 6 convertible though.

However, the outgoing 5 (from 1995), especially in 523i form (virtually same performance as the 528i; 2.5-litre of course) is undoubtedly one of the best all round driver's cars ever created by any manufacturer.

I always enjoyed driving the well thought out estate versions as well.

I still have mixed feelings about the 5's looks. I still love it though, has far more character than the old shape (but undeniably beautiful) that I ran. The mileage is climbing now on this one but it never fails to delight. I preferred the Touring when I saw it in the metal and wished I'd hung on to my money !

It's replacement is already in my sights, the bi-turbo 530, now that will be a motor.
