hi - had a bit of a smack today.

big eye-opener, in my 2001 acent, hit a lampost below 10mph. it has destroyed the bumper, grille and bonnet - all beyond repair.
Car still drives and mechanics are all working fine.
I can see why the car fails to get 2 star NCAP safety rating - death trap, however its a reliable death trap.

Anyhow, need a bumper, grille and bonnet for a y-plate model. colour aint to important as i can get it painted.

where is best to look?
are they easy enough to remove?
are they easy enough to install?
anything to watch out for?
as i said, the radiator hasnt been touched, neither has anything else. let me know, as i reckon if i can get the parts the job looks straight forward.

Where can i pick up replica parts?

unable to find any parts in scrap or spares firms, so wondering if i can get cheap copies?

Please help - i cant find parts anywhwere and i need my car for work.

spent 38 quid on the train today!

Motor factors in the Yellow Pages, look for one specialising in bodyshop supplies.

i am shocked - people claim about the bad availablity of rover car parts - hyundai are the worst i have ever encountered.

the ONLY place i can get the required 3 parts is the main dealer, and he must order them - at least 4 weeks waiting list!

every scrap yard i can get the details of, i have tried and none have the car with the front end in tact.

no spare companies have the parts.

even replica parts are not available.

the dealer wants 280 quid for the 3 items.

from being highly impressed with hyundai, im not fully realising why the cars are so cheap and the drawbacks with buying a Korean car.

Replica parts are not available because it is a relatively new car that didn't sell in big numbers. You would have problems getting replica ('pattern') parts for the 2000-on Mondeo, for example, so its not a surprise that they are unavailable for the Hyundai.

To be honest, £280 sounds very reasonable for those three parts - there are plenty of small cars where you would be charged double that amount. The long wait is bad though!

Try another dealer,i needed some parts for a Trajet today,1st dealer said 1 week,2nd dealer said parts will be here in the morning.I cant believe that the parts you need would have to come from Korea.

Hi,

It may be worth in the instance claiming on your Insurance (If you are fully comp) as normally you will get a coutsey car and let the insurance fix it.

The only negetives are

1) They might write of the car if parts are to expensive

2)You will lose your NCB

so I guess you need to weigh up the pros and cons.

Good Luck

Been doing a bit of googling on your behalf. Can't guarantee any of these will help you, but at least it's a start.

Many more can be found by entering "hyundai accent" parts(include everything that's in bold, including the quotation marks) and do a UK search using Google.

thankyou for all the help - found a dealer who can get me a bumper and grille by wednesday - so at least the car will be drivable.

wih the bonnet im not sure weather to -
1. fill up dents - smoth ovber and prime & paint
or
2. the hyundai accent and kia rio are the same chassis and share many similar components - would not a kia rio bonnet simply fit onto my car?
ok it wouldnt look the exact same, but would still fit perfectly and only a knowledgable mechanic would recognise a slight different shape to the bonnets asthetics.
would the old mark 1 accent bonnet fit? - its the same chassis from what i can see.

is this worth persuing?

another problem, after the accident in shock, she reversed and scrapped the side of a wall - the car is a 3 door and the panel has dented in with obvious paintwork scrapes along the side.
the paint isnt a big concern -but how do i got about removing the dent? also, as the body work was pushed in, it was near to the fuel filler cap and the square frame around where the fuel filler flap goes has slighly bent inwards and deformed.
Am I best to simply remove the flap and tap the fuel filler passage back into shape?

From the last post

no a kia rio bonnet while having similarish dimensions wont fit.

still cant find a bonnet - however, current damaged one is secure enough to drive the car around - althouh i do want it replacing asap.

few more issues.

1. the protection bar.
unfortunately, despite the low speed the point of impact hit a weak part of the bar where a screw was and has dented back and slightly split.
ivew tried with a strong piece of wood to bend it back but no use - the wood kept spliting.
ive been told i can try this option - attach protection bar to a strong stable point - eg, tree - and reverse slowly until it pulls out?
is this a good option?
also, i can estimate the costs of replacing the bar (eg, undo the welding, cost of part, new welding) to be upto £1000.

if i was to simply leave it - ok i would be at a far higher risk in an accident - but its causing no problem. I was wondering what are the consequences if in 9 months time i sell the car, but as sold as season priavetly or through an auction.
Could i be liable if the new owner was in a crash and i hadnt disclosed information about the damaged bar - yet the recipt was clear the car was sold as seen?

another little problem.
the under car plastic cover has generally cracked, ripped and come loose. It neds a full replacement.
Im not sure of the main dealer costs - was wondering - is it possible to do this myself and use a similar material?
any tips/recommendations?
its only plastic no more than 2mm thick.

so i still need a bonnet
have a 1/4 snapped and bent protection bar
and need new under car cover
plus i got to paint it all when its done.

any tips/help is really needed and appreciated.

"the under car plastic cover has generally cracked ..."

Don't know about the Accent, but on some cars the only purpose of the under-engine cover seems to be to smooth the airflow under the engine and hence reduce wind resistance and improve fuel consumption. My guess is that the benefits are hardly measurable. So if your car will hold itself together without the cover in place, just remove it and forget about it.

"Protection bar ... Could i be liable if the new owner was in a crash ..."

If you were accused of knowingly selling a car in a dangerous or unroadworthy condition (very unlikely), a recent MOT would be an adequate defence that you were unaware of its dangerous condition.

Always assuming you're a private seller, not in the trade.

cheers guys.
underneath covering.
my only fear is random motorway stones flying up and whacking something in the engine bay - could cause some serious damage at 70+

"... random motorway stones flying up ..."

This won't happen - lots of cars have no under-engine covers - both my old Peugeots, for instance.

But the cover might provide some additional protection against boulders if you do some serious off-roading. You don't need a 4x4 for this to be relevant. A friend smashed his steering rack hitting a rock on a campsite, but I think he was particularly unlucky.

Another 3 thousand miles covered - and the worlds cheapest 3 year old car just wont stop runnig 9most miles are covered plus 85mph).
Still - no bonnet - no scrap yards.

Any solutions?
really want to get it replaced and painted, as i really need to move the car on.

cheers.

BTW - i have never known a car so hard to get parts for, been an absolute nightmare.

hyundai accident repair - daveyK_UK
as for a new underneath covering - dealer wants £125 plus vat!!!

i am going to pick up some black lino and use it instead.

i cant see it catching fire any easier than the normal plastic!

daveyK_UK,

Found this while looking through another forum. Looks like they might have a bonnet for your car.

Or perhaps not. Says it\'s for a 1994 to 1997 model Accent.

Might be worth ringing them though.
