AR,
Thanks for that. I live near Chelmsford, Essex.
It wouldn't be so bad if the rest of the glass was similar, rather than grey/green. I've not seen any Omega's with this screen, and believe me, I've been looking. It's seems to have reduced the performance of my Sat-Nav as well - must be the metal film.

Does this mean there will be a "graded" pink one going cheap? :o)

What's the matter with your existing rose coloured spectacles?

I thought Autoglass always fitted manufacturer's glass. What brand is the new screen?
I've just had Auto Windscreens (now owned by the RAC) out to replace the windscreen on our old Volvo. The new screen (RAC branded) has a pink tint to it and is very noticeable from the inside with all the sunshine we've been having recently. I figured it must be some sort of anti reflective coating, similar to what you can specify with spectacles these days.
Surely it should reduce glare and is therefore a good thing

I found this similar problem in the archives, so will recycle this thread. I went to Autoglass today to have a chip repaired on the insurance for free, after waiting an hour, I had a look into the workshop and saw my Omega had no windscreen, so I went in and they said it had cracked so needed to replace it. I was surprised they didn't ask me, as that meant paying £50 excess and waiting longer, anyway. Another hour later, it was ready, and I was pleased at first, but as I drove back to work, I noticed the tint was much less than the old one, it was certainly noticeable if you looked at say a white car half through the side window and half through the windscreen, the side window would have a darker and greener tint.
I then noticed that at the bottom, the glass distorted the viewed image, this meant whatever passed on the driver's side lurched sideways as it passed into the periphery. Hmmmm, not so happy now.
Then when parked I looked from the outside and noticed ripples in the glass like you get on cars from India or the far east, or European cars from decades gone by.
Well, this new screen is made by Saint Gobain, an Indian company by all accounts. It is marked... DOT60, ASI, M50T, 43R, E17
I am wondering if I had some sort of solar absorbing glass before and now don't. I would be grateful if anyone in the trade can give hints, so that when I contact them in the morning, I can pre-empt their replies. Thanks.

Think you'll find they're French!!

Looking at those numbers, and looking at the screens here on the shelf I can tell you that your screen is actually made in a factory in finland. But Saint Gobain are infact a French company as Bromptonaut says.
Under that block of numbers and letters there will be a little Pictogram of a rectangle a thermometer and an arrow if you have the solar control glass.
The ripples you can see in the glass, are they visable from the driving seat whilst driving? Next time you are in a queue of traffic look across at the car next to you and look through their windscreen and you will see ripples top to bottom, they are visable from the side but not straight on.
My numbers are shown earlier in the thread, but ring the branch first and speack to them, if you get no joy then contact me.

Hello ARCoolC,
Thank you, that was just the kind of info. I needed!
Sorry, google results made me think Saint Gobain was Indian, but further searching suggests they are a very large company in lots of countries.
I telephoned the branch who made no fuss, and apologised, and said they will get the correct OE one from a main Vauxhall dealer and telephone me when it arrives.
Thanks again!

Someone I know commented once that all French cars have rippled, therefore inherently cheap, glass. I would imagine that most French cars use Saint Gobain glass so maybe this is a feature of their glass in general.
My Vectra C has a combination of different manufacturers glass (it's like that from new). I think the windscreen and rear screen are Pilkington but the side windows are Saint Gobain and they are rippled...Doesn't bother me though

Funny, since I noticed mine, now I sit in traffic jams looking at everyone else's windows. Some cars are certainly worse than others, Daewoos, and hings in that league are bad, so are Japanese vehicles. I'm still waiting for a new screen to come to the dealer from Germany, then to Autoglass, then Autoglass to me. I'm not sure whether the new one will be pink/purple or dark green like the original. I don't mind either way. It does make me also wonder about the safety of 'pattern' glass, would it offer the same protection in a rollover, or a brick dropped off a bridge?
