Advice on value of 1990 Mazda MX-5 - Ian D
To free up some garage space my girlfriend and I am selling a cherished 1990 Mazda MX-5. I would be interested if anyone in the know can advise on the value... It is...

1990 UK car MX-5 1.6 in red, 29000 miles with 2 very careful owners, garaged from new, regularly serviced including major service last year (all fuids including g/box and rear diff), only modifications from new are a CD tuner and an immobiliser. It has new tyres, genuinely unmarked interior and exterior (I know you have heard this all before but on this car it is true!), taxed and MOTd, not used for short trips but used for good weather long trips... Best condition one you will find... Any advice appreciated.

There are very few on Autotrader for under £3k, and if it's as good as you say, it's almost impossible to judge. It will simply be worth what someone is willing to pay, which might be a lot more, especially on a sunny day!

I'd love it, but no dosh, I'm afraid...

2000 miles a year? Six to twelve long trips a year? That's an awful lot of time immobile. Still, most prospective purchasers will value the low mileage above its deleterious effects, of which they will probably be unaware.

Thanks for the info, I posted a simialr question on the MX5 forum and £4000 to £4500 looks like the best price that could be achieved, will try their site at a hopeful £4500 and try autotrader and see what happens. Best get the ad in soon with the good weather forecast for this week...

Not sure where you are but I think 4 to 4.5k for a '90 is a bit ambitious. Local paper has had a few recently - all sub 3k. Most MX5's I've seen are in very good condition, yours is very low mileage but is that worth paying nearly twice those with higher mileages?. There seem to be a large amount of the for sale recently.

"What have I done now?"

LOL! Not blaming you for anything, ND - just empathising with the condition... :-(

I sold my 92 special edition back in March (during that warm spell).

It was black with a hard top, tan leather upholstery with a wood interior (gear knob, steering wheel etc), had ABS, full electrics including remote locking and immobiliser, alloys, stainless steel exhaust system, stainless roll bar full dealer history and full British spec ? only 150 were made. It was the best looking MX5 you could hope to see. The condition was immaculate and it had done just over 70K. No one even came to look at it 5500 and it eventually went (after 3 weeks of advertising in London) for 5000.

As the man says ? people will only pay what they want to pay- but more than that people wont even take a look if they think priced to highly to start with (however good it is).

Good luck!

Tim R.

I am the owner of a 1990 Mazda MX5 1st Anniversary Limited Edition Number 100 of 250 produced. It is in British Racing Green with all the leather, wood trim and spoked wheels. It also carries the license plate: H5 MXH

I might be tempted to part with it for the right money. It has about 60,000 miles, 2 owners and I've known the car since new. The vehicle has had no expense spared. Pictures available. Just e-mail me simon@sellbuye.com

Sold our one for just over £4000 to a friend of a regular poster above! A sensible price for what was an excellent car
