peugeot 306 key plip - taxi driver
I am told it is possible to program a new key plip, does anyone know the procedure for doing this?

many thanks

The procedure is in the handbook (page 12 in my 1993 handbook). I'll copy it out for you, assuming that the 1993 instructions work for you.

You should use a spare plain non-remote key for this procedure because the ignition must be on, and you can't program the key which is in the ignition. But if you need to, it is possible to separate the key from its electronics, and then use the loose key in the ignition while programming the electronics part.

Or there may be a cleverer way!

<<
1. The doors must not be locked.
2. Use the key without the remote control and turn it in the ignition to position 2 "A" for accessories.
3. Bring the remote control key to within 10 cm (4 ins) of the receiver (near the interior rear-view mirror).
4. Press button 1 or 2 within 10 seconds of turning the key in the ignition.
5. If you have two remote control keys: Press button 1 or 2 on the second remote control key within the next 10 seconds.
6. Turn off the ignition.

I dont think you can use this procedure to program two different keys, as what you are actually doing is programming the receiver (not the transmitter) to match your key. Atleast on the infra red keys.

Anyone have any experience programming a key from a different car, and still using your old remote key? Or do you have to get your pug delaer to re-program the new key to match your old or vice-a-versa?

Peugeot's instructions (see point 5 above) certainly claim you can program the receiver to recognise two different remote keys. Though I've not tried it myself.

But it wouldn't work if the second remote keys was being used in the ignition - you would have to take it out of the ignition to program it, which would interrupt the programming sequence. Hence the complexity of dismantling keys and/or having a non-remote key available.

I agree you can do this with the two genuine keys supplied by Peugeot for your car. What I am querying is the possibility of doing this with the same key from another pug 306.

The Infra red keys, are purely transmitters, they do not receive any feedback data from the car. Hence they are programmed to send out a pre-programmed (by Peugeot) signal to the receiver. What you are actually doing when you do the above procedure is to register your keys pre-programmed signal with the receiver.

This obviously works as there is a roaring trade in second hand pug 306 IR keys on eBay.

Can you do this with a 406?

After reading these postings I tried it on both my 406 (worked exactly as it says) and my 306 (not successful but I think I may need new plip batteries as well),
thanks

I tried this with my 93 306 but it did not work. I have changed the batteries on the key. Anyone got any ideas?

I have had this issue and sadly didn't know that you could reprogram the keys in your car. Sadly had to go to Peugeot and pay £30 to get it sorted!!
