Hi we are a two car family; wife has a mk3 polo which she uses for driving to work etc and i have a seat marbella (sad, i know) which i use for driving to work, rubbish tip etc.
Right, now i am registered as the keeper of the marbella and wifey is registered keeper of the polo. i have cover to drive other cars not owned by myself(as 3rd party cover only).
Originally we were both insured on the marbella, which was registered in her name as that was our only car, until last week when we bought the polo. when she phoned the insurance company to change to the new car they recommended that she transferred the registration of the marbella to me, otherwise she would require a two car policy. so in that case, is it legal for me to drive her car occasionally, because the wording seems very open to interpretation as how do you prove someone 'owns' a particular car apart from the implied ownership due to registation?

There is a thread much earlier on this very question.
Some believe you can others say no.
As it will all depend what is in your policy why not speak to your insuranace company and get it in black and white if you can.
The other option is to have yourselves as policy holder for respective vehicles and have the other as a named driver?

We have two cars, one registered in my name and the other in my wife's name. I have policies on both cars with my wife as the named driver on both policies.

Ditto. Liverpool Victoria are aware of which car is registered to whom and even give us both business use cover for either (if you see what I mean).

Get it in writing.
They might forget they said it or change their minds about exactly what they did say in the event of a significant incident. It is also equally possible that you have been given a simplistic answer by someone who didn't understand the significance of the question - essentially that they have verbally given you permission to drive your wife's McLaren F1 without additional premium.
Really, get it in writing.

Hi we are a two car family; >> Yours confused
simple and most probably cost nuetral solution :
insure both cars for named drivers as insured & spouse.
my insurance company charges no extra for including spouse as named driver.
and as someone else has already said, they throw in business use for either person on both policies.
