I know it's not going to worth a lot but realistically what is the fair price for a 1.3 Golf Mk 2 with full service history in mint condition with new MOT, next to no rust/dents and six months tax (apart from the misfire that started this week!).
A friends son has always pestered me to let him have the car when I decide to get rid and that time has come I think.

If it's running OK around £300 to £350 or £400 tops. Otherwise if you don't want the hassle wrt missing you could reduce it to £200 to get shot.
£500 will buy you a much later escort or astra
£750 will get you an M or N reg car, albeit not a VW

I know someone that just bought a F reg 96k on clock car immaculate £750 had to replace head gasket but caused me grief
as it had all timing marks erased.had to do it manually ie using old timing methods.car is fine now cost him £60 to put right.I gather they do hold the price as they are collectors cars now.

A neighbour had an F reg Jetta TX from new. It was mint and serviced regularly. When he chopped it in last year for a Bora (at the same main dealer) they gave him £200. If I'd needed such a car I'd have gladly paid around £400-£500 for it.

I sold an E reg 1.3 4+E Golf with service history, low mileage and in generally good nick (a bit of rust over the wheel arches) for £500. This was last summer. I suspect used prices have dipped a bit since then, so I wouldn't expect to get more than £350-£400.

Bangernomics rule of thumb. Multiply the cost of MoT by the number of months it ha to run. Add the value of the tax and then a little bit on top for condition generlly gives a good guide price.
