Different bhp from same engine - far0n
Anyone know what the manufacturer changes when they offer a car with the same engine but with higher bhp ? Say for instance the 2.0 litre D-4D engine from Toyota has (I think) 84 bhp in the corolla and 114 bhp in the avensis.

Bore, stroke, camshaft, valve timing, number of valves, valve size, valve lift, compression ratio, piston shape, computer/ignition characteristics, flywheel weight, ? Probably a few more things too!

I thought it was just a different chip these days.

Intercooler, plus possibly some turbo changes and oil cooling to pistons. The latter is the weak point with chipping: or rather the lack of thought given to the consequences of untutored meddling!

I think it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but many are just a different chip nowadays i think

The Rover 25 1.4 litre 16v(K-series) comes in two specs: 84bhp and 103bhp.

My understanding is that in this case the only difference is in the throttle body.

In the case of the 1.4 K-series, i believe that the lower powered versions had single point fuel injection, whilst the higher powered versions had multipoint injection.

With turbo cars, big increases in bhp can be acheived by increasing the boost supplied by the turbo.
