Lexus IS250 (2006) - Ticking Noise - Lexus IS250 - cam1231

Hey everyone,

Looking for some input on a noise issue with my Lexus IS250.

  • Yesterday, I started noticing a ticking noise, most noticeable when the engine is at idle.

  • When I rev the engine to around 2000 RPM, the ticking seems to increase in frequency.

  • However, once I get to around 3000 RPM, it becomes much less noticeable or seems to disappear entirely.

  • Strangely, the noise was gone this morning during my first drive, but it came back again later in the day.

  • I tried to pinpoint the source and it seems to be coming from the front of the engine. While inspecting, I noticed the water pump pulley has a visible wobble, and it seems to line up with the ticking sound.

Does this sound like it could be the root cause? I've attached a video for reference.

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Either way, I think you want the water pump replaced ASAP. They do wear out and those engines don't like getting hot. If that doesn't fix it, move on to further investigations.

If you are getting the waterpump done REPLACE the cambelt at the same time. It's the same time to put on a new belt as the old belt when it's dismantled.

Aren't these chain driven?

Yep! That water pump needs changing sooner rather than later, surprised its not leaking.

Apologies - IS 200 is belt driven
