Skoda Karoq - Skoda Karoq worth the money? - sunseeker87

Looking at potentially getting a petrol Skoda Karoq, likely the 1.5L version.I am going to be trading in my old Yaris and paying the rest in cash not finance.I just wondered what people's experience of a 2018 Karoq are? They are the top end of my budget and I am trying to debate whether to spend a bit more for lower mileage or just pay less for more miles.I would quite like a high spec one with a heated windscreen,a reversing camera and heated seats would also be great!

Any advice would be very helpful as this is a huge amount of money for me,and I love.my old Yaris but I need a bigger car now.

Well forum member Adampr had one (as he said in your last thread), i'm sure he'll be along soon to let you know his experience in more detail.

Personally, I wouldn't. Mainly because of the risk of DSG problems, but also because of the kangarooing problems which affected the early 1.5TSI's

I did have one (also a 2018) and it was a very good car. Nice interior (I had cream leather) and a very quiet engine (I had the 1.5 tsi). Quite agile for a car if its size as long as you don't hit a load of bumps at high speed. Mine was a DSG and I had no problems with it, but they do have a reputation for going wrong.

The engine had a lumpy idle from cold. That disappeared within 10 seconds, but was slightly irritating. I think the DSG hid it in terms of driving and it's the manuals that are a bit jerky. If looking at a 1.5, I would recommend starting it from absolute stone cold to see if it idles evenly or not. Or, just put up with sitting in it parked until it calms down - the problem seems to be software related so won't cause an issue.

If you're not planning to tow or hammer up and down motorways I'd look at the 1.0tsi. It will be cheaper to buy and cheaper to run, also without the idle problems of the 1.5.

Ultimately, I got rid of mine because I changed jobs and needed something with 4wd and lower running costs. I had fallen out of love with my Karoq when someone knocked it in a parking space and snapped one of the plastic headlight brackets. It cost £1,000 for a replacement headlight unit and I swore never to buy another VW product.

Mine had heated seats and the infotainment is pretty good (satnav is awful but the android auto works well). The back seats can be reclined, tumbled forward or completely removed individually to make more load space.

A colleague of mine had a diesel and hated the engine noise, so I'd suggest avoiding them.

If you love the reliability of the Yaris, why not simply buy a bigger Toyota? If you want an auto, Toyota hybrids are largely bombproof mechanically. I’d certainly trust one more than a 7yr old DSG equipped VAG product.

No experience of the Karoq and I've only driven 1.5 petrol VAG cars as loan/hire jobbies. Brisk enough but both were autos and I really don't like driving them; too like a dodgem.

Current Golf is driving me mad by nattering me to keep my lane, slow down half a mile from roundabouts and with some sort of lane keeping thing that's far more often spurious than needed.

Somebody upthread mentioned towing. Be careful with Skoda SUVs as at least some models cannot be retro-fitted with a towbar; only available as factory build on new cars.

I still wouldn't for the reasons I've already said. But for the OP, if you are still dead set on a Karoq, you might as well also be looking at the Seat Ateca as, with the exception of some minor styling and trim differences, they are essentially the same car.
