Car is fine. 2 new tyres needed soon but otherwise ok.
Vitara as a replacement ? but not happy with the seats
Way beckon the dim and distant past, one of the cars my Dad had was a Daf 55 Variomatic (CVT). He liked its seats so much that when the car ended up being put out to pasture, he kept the front seats and put them in his next two cars!.
Not so easy to do that on a modern car though.

I'm rather surprised you could do it with any cars, unless they were very similar models. Is there any commonality of seat runners between makers - they redesign almost everything else ?

Not sure exactly how it was done and the only similarities I can think of between the three cars involved was that they were front engined and rear wheel drive. A MK2 Escort estate came after the Daf, then a Hillman Hunter. What I do know is that my Uncle was a mechanic and most likely played a part!

Not that I know of. I think that aftermarket seat manufacturers have their own subframes. You choose the subframe that suits your particular cars runners.

Way beckon the dim and distant past, one of the cars my Dad had was a Daf 55 Variomatic (CVT).
I had reason to drive a nearly new Daf 55 when i was 18, compared to the well past its (awful) best Morris 1100 i owned at the time it was a revelation in how it drove, thoroughly enjoyed it and could easily have lived with one had i more than tuppence to my name at the time.

Following up on the 2 tyres needed bit, fitted 2 235/55R18 Kormoran tyres yesterday. £202.80 the pair. Tracking checked but in order.
I didn't realise that they were budget Michelin tyres made in Polanf.

I had two Daf 55s, as commented above the seats were really comfortable, performance was good considering the modest Renault engine it had.
The only reason I finally changed to a Cortina was the pain of adjusting and changing drive belts: 20 setscrews held on the plastic under-shield which had to be removed for these actions.

I thought these had a minimum 5 year warranty. So what’s changed?
|
Is it just FUD-marketing? They say 'may not' which doesn't indicate it is not under warranty (7 years?). How much would AA cover be though?

It seems as if just marketing.
KGM have confirmed my warranty is valid.
End of story.

Had a text message from dealer to book in for next service due.
Friendly receptionist answered phone and confirmed my preferred date with a follow up text and email for end of July. Car will then be 2 months short of 4 year old.
Touch wood (!) nothing to report in my ownership except the coil pack early on and routine servicing.

I always liked the look of those little Dafs and wanted one, but as someone has posted upthread, at the time I was also skint.
I wonder if changing the seats was as simple as taking the seat and rails out of the old car and drilling new holes in the floor of the new car?
Wouldn't want to do that today, with airbags, electronics and all, but I remember finding the bolts for seat runners under the floor of an old banger that I once owned.

Some cars need the seats unbolted to access things underneath - in the case of my VW Touareg to change the battery, which is under the front passenger seat.
|
Took the Korando in for the 4 year service today.
Clean bill of health. Filters, bake fluid change, wheels off to inspect brakes (there's a surprise) 4 spark plugs @ £18 each...
Total £452.oo
No complaints
Just a little note... Abbetgate no longer Ford new car dealer.
They had something called a Skywell in the showroom... Hmmm.

Its posts (and invoices) like that which more than ever convince me to keep our old motors running for as long as possible.
A bill like that seems scandalous to me but dare say its about right, but you can't compare a professional garage service with a DIY operation i and others do, and obviously with a new car you need to stay in the dealer network to bullet proof warranty.

The Itemised bill wasn't excessive to me.
Labour 190.00
parts & oil 189.93
all plus vat.
Don't forget Gordon.......they actually checked the brakes taking wheels off. Disc and pads thicknesses all noted. Tyre tread depths........... and condition of alloy wheels all noted as no damage to any wheel.
As I said above. No complaints.

No comparison between a proper dealer workshops and Gordon's bodgit and scarper home DIY operation :-)
Just took advantage of a July ebay discount offer and new vented Bosch rear discs and Brembo pads (Bosch pads had less friction thickness) for the Landcruiser on the way for £70 all in, yes i am a cheapskate tightwad, they don't need to go on till next year, but oi loikes a bargin.

Oi loikes a deal too, BUT.. too feeble now to change a wheel if I get a puncture with one of those silly scissor jacks.
It'll be Start Rescue to deal with all that faff. !!

I've gone past the stage of DIY car maintenance and repairs:
- no longer enjoy crawling around on cold concrete - not sure I ever did!
- tools seem to have disappeared over the years following several moves,
- finding part way through a service I should have bought some spares before I started
So I accept, but still resent, the need to pay.
Main dealer gets the business whilst the car is under warranty to avoid any arguments if I have to claim. 15 miles away so courtesy car needed for the day. But very expensive IMHO.
Post warranty period will use local garage who seem entirely competent, with rather more modest charges and no need for courtesy car - just walk home in 5 minutes.

I don’t think this is too bad at all for a main dealer service, if we factor in the inflation that has happened post-COVID.
Nothing wrong with a good independent of course, although a good main dealer can be helpful for following the factory service intervals if they’re paying attention. Or at least that used to be the case before a lot of the intervals got stretched or changed to ‘check’ rather than ‘replace’.
Would I instead have my car serviced by GB? No question.

Ditto.

Indeed no.

Not necessarily. Mrs F insisted (and I was content to) pay nearly £200 for her Peugeot 2008's dealer 'first service' at a year old but in view of its low mileage (fewer than 6k p.a.) it's never had another. I was happy to gamble nothing serious would go wrong during its (I think) 4yr warranty....and it hasn't.
The Itemised bill wasn't excessive to me.
Labour 190.00
Can't comment as no knowledge of hourly rate and no idea how long it takes to change oil, spark plugs (mileage?) and any other work.
parts & oil 189.93
Presumably not just plugs, filter(s) and oil. On line prices for S-Y-K spark plugs seem to vary from around three quid for conventional, or around a tenner for long lasting platinum/iridium. I presume it needed four - assuming the originals were conventional, or if iridium, the mileage was more than 60k.
all plus vat.
Wot?? Ouch!
Don't forget Gordon.......they actually checked the brakes taking wheels off. Disc and pads thicknesses all noted. Tyre tread depths........... and condition of alloy wheels all noted as no damage to any wheel.
Hope they didn't do the wheel nuts up too tightly!
