The Omega was traded in for one of the last new ones in the showroom. Have since done a quick national autotrader search and results are promising - £1200 - £1700. I'll try 1k and will keep you posted.

What are the 2.5s like on juice? Used to have a 3 Litre Carlton. Once got 28MPG out of it, but never more than 21 knocking about... Are Omegas out of production now?
They are quite thirsty because you tend to drive to their performance. I have found that if I stick rigidly to speed limits I can get 38mpg on the combined cycle. However, consumption rapidly increases if you have a heavy right foot.
General running around I get approx 26mpg.

The police sell their 3litre Omegas at around 100k.
They keep their Volvos 'till 150-170k.
& they maintain & look after them better than most, mechanically. Their fleet managers obviously feel that £$£$£ may be needed sooner on the Vauxhall.
But for a £1000, you may be Ok, there are sometimes good cars to be had, at this price range.

I get a very exact 31mpg. This is on largely motorway runs; I record them by the thousand miles or so (every two or three tanks full). The worst was around 28mpg, which was mostly town driving, journeys under about six or seven miles.

If your garage lets it go for £1,000 and it's as good as you say, grab it with both hands.
Yes, I do believe Vauxhall have stopped them now. Tragic.
