Hi

I have a 2000MY vectra, which only has one key.

I would like to buy a second one. As the key has the alarm and immobiliser built in do I have to get it from a dealer and pay the earth or can you recommend an other supplier?

Thanks for any info

Try www.autolocksmiths.net.These are independents that can cut & programme chipped keys.

I'd be VERY surprised if anyone but the dealer had access to the codes etc needed to be programmed in - and if they could duplicate the key from the existing one it raises all sorts of questions about security in general - a kind of 'skeleton chip key'

Course I could be wrong and I'd be interested to hear if I am.

If programming a vectra key is anything like programming a Ford then you may be able to use your current key as a master - Check in the manuel.

For my Focus you need two programmed keys and insert them into the ignition in a complex sequence so you can program the new one. My Dad's mondeo has somthing similar but only requires one 'master' key.

You're wrong. There are quite a variety of non-dealer outfits that will cut and program a new key for popular cars. They may well need an existing key and/or the car, but they can do it.

Ok I now know that other companies can do the "chip" job.

The question is where can I get a very good price?
