Hi! Can any one offer any help? My Daughter's 1.2 Punto's 55 Engine Management warning light has come on and the engine is running really rough, I have took it for a short spin only to come back home and to the smell of hot metal. I looked under the car and the Catalytic Convertor was glowing bright orange - obviously very hot!

The cat may be so hot due to unburned fuel being oxidised in the cat, this is a side effect of the poor running, not a cure, but the cat may have now melted internally so will need replacing.
MAP sensors are quite a common problem, this is near the bottom of the windscreen in a black plastic box-shaped cover. Also, it could be ingnition leads or a dud spark plug, maybe the ignition module too, I think that\'s on the offside inner wing.

Could this not be a failure of the Lambda sensor, so common with Punto engines? Though, a failed MAP would cause the engine to run rich.
Please let us know the result.
