5k, sporty and cheap to insure - footy_72
i've got around 5k to spend, and am looking for a hatchback/saloon that looks quite sporty but not too dear on the insurance. Any ideas?

So far i've come up with the megane or xsara coupe's, but there must be more.

I think for 5k you should be able to get hold of an early Puma, they are cracking little cars.

Pretty cheap insurance.

3-dr Focus Zetec hatch in a strong metallic. Looks sharp, and unlike the Renaults, drives sharp. Would be a lot fresher than an equivalently priced Puma. Or perhaps a previous-shape 1.6 Hyundai Coupe.

Does it just need to look sporty, or are you looking for something quick? Is insurance or fuel consumption an issue?

D'oh...

You said ' cheap to insure'....How about a Peugeot 306 XS (2.0 petrol) or Dturbo (1.9 td)? Both look the part, drive like a good hot hatch, are insurableand could be found within your budget?

Fiesta Zetec-S. These are nice little cars.

Mitsubishi 3000 gt.

All the sport you can handle, reliable and now around £5K. Insurance will be a bitch but thats what credit cards are for.

Yep, I'll vouch for the 306, DTurbo is insurance group 5. Fabulous to drive (I prefer the 306 to the Focus) and only costs me £370 to insure (Im 21 with 2 yrs NCB).
XSi is higher insurance group, but quite a bit quicker. DTurbo has XSi trimmings though to give the 'sporty' look.

Ditto, the 306 DTurbo is a great car to drive, thats sporty, cheap to insure and can at least beat most Nova SR's off the lights too. Its not incredibly quick, but im only 20 and a student, so the fact that the insurance is cheap is more of a key factor for now. The only drawback is that bits tend to fall off mine, but its fundamentally sound wrt engine etc.

Oh and who are you insured with RossD?

I searched exhaustively to find £920 fully comp with no NCB, age 20, but i quite fancy paying £370ish in a years time!
