Wiper-blade tresspassing - mal
Hi all,
While since I last posted but what has prompted me this time is coming back to my car today and finding someone had lifted my wiperblade and left me a leaflet advertising full car valets for the not too small sum of £40 pounds.
Now I do not mind someone trying to make a living in this country rather than sponge off the State like some do, but I do object to someone "tresspasing" on my car.
I ask you what right has anyone to do this, can they not be stopped in some way, is there not some law, or local bylaws which can prevent this?.
Needless to say they were littered all over the place thrown down by equaly anonyed motorists.
What worries me is how I might react if I actually caught someone in the act of "tresspassing" on my car, which i might add in reference to another thread is allways parked away from other cars over 2 bays!
Rant over,
Cooling down time now.
Regards Mal.

Could be worse...

...someone could have chucked a brick through the window, wrapped in a note advertising windscreen repairs.

Actually, I'll be quite interested in this, so I hope someone posts something more useful.

Yes, trespass to property is the civil offence. I believe it is actionable per se - ie without proof of actual damage.
Needless to say, damages would be very low indeed.

I know what you mean about the littering (also a problem when people are just thrusting flyers in the street) but I've never seen this practice as tresspass - certainly no more than the unsolicited junk that comes through my letter box (if not less so than that) It doesn't annoy me at all, I just keep it in the car until I can throw it away properly.

Like most unsolicited advertising though, I'm not sure it works out to be cost effective for the business concerned, I suspect most of it gets ignored.

WARNING

Some cars with aerodynamically hidden wipers can be damaged by lifting the blade when the wipers are parked, an example of this is my Citroen C5, I cannot think of any more off my head, but suspect the Passat as well.

On my 3rd Citroen. Saxo, Xsara, C5.

SeeFive, what's an 'aerodynamically hidden' wiper then? are they some more common knowledge items that've passed me by? or is it likely that the people who do this kind of canvassing wont know either?

Just wondering.

Hootie,

An "aerodynamically hidden" wiper is one that is shielded from the airflow.

Wipers are not smooth and cause noise and turbulent air movement over them. Hiding them behind an upturned lip on the rear of the bonnet does the trick, unless you need to lift them.

I hate this as well, because invariably I'm half in the car before I see the leaflet! Then I have to get out, and retrieve the thing, which gets crumpled up and thrown inside the car, for later disposal.
Now, some bloke advertisng cheap auto services/CV joints etc is OK, but I HATE the ones which are "Make $$$$$$s in your spare time" etc.
I was actually in trouble with MrsIan once, as one of the flyers she found discarded was for Sizzlers, a local establishment of the striptease variety, advertsisng their Friday lunchtime 'show' ...

Mal,
It might be interesting to learn from one of our legal eagles if Bill Posters was ever prosecuted?
