Ford Focus 2015 - Ford Powershift issues - Kayleigh Cooper

I have a 2015 Focus petrol 1.6 powershift which has developed a juddering slipping problem.

I took it to Ford, and they have said I need a new gearbox and clutch pack at a cost of £3500.

I have read on this forum that Ford extended the warranty to 5 years on the gearbox because of the number of problems with the powershift.

Can anyone tell me where I can find proof of this so I can show this to Ford as they say it is out of warranty.

Thanks Kay

Does the car have a full Ford main dealer service history?

Speak to the service department at your local Ford dealer and ask them to put in a goodwill claim with Ford. They’re helping outside of the ordinary manufacturer warranty term but on a case by case basis. I don’t know if they’ve officially upgraded the warranty term in fact I can’t find anything online to back this up.

While I believe they’ve been previously generous with goodwill in these cases you have unfortunately been servicing the car outside of the dealer network which will seriously hamper your case. If you had a full Ford history I believe they’d certainly help with at least a partial offer to cover repairs, they would be unlikely to cover everything on a car with over 60,000 miles up however.

Try the dealer first then if they’re not helpful contact Ford customer services direct and politely ask them to become involved. They’ll contact the dealer and assess your case. If however it’s missed any scheduled fluid changes (I think it was due at 35,000 miles but not sure) you’ll be left to fund it yourself. This is why it’s vital to maintain a full main dealer history with highly complex cars especially automated manual gearboxes like this.

Thank you for your reply.if you search online for:powershift 5 year warranty uk

It brings up this

The manufacturer's standard warranty is 3 years. Because of the problems with the Powershift box, Ford extended the warranty on the gearbox to five years in the UK, 7 years in the US and Australia (maybe they complain more effectively).20 Sep 2017

so it seems it is a five year warranty on the powershift box, i just want to find out where this info is coming from, so i can present it to Ford.

Thanks Kay

That came from a reply on a forum and not Ford itself. I couldn’t find anything concrete on this from Ford and even if true it’s very likely they’ll reject any claim without a full dealer service record including evidence of gearbox fluid changes which are vital to the longevity of this box. Again contact Ford and see how you get on. They’ve been quite willing to help in the past so you may get lucky.

A quote of £3500 suggests the dealer you approached is not interested. Try another dealer or as suggested go to Ford directly

HJ suggests www.fedauto.co.uk as means of contacting an independent specialist for another opinion or fix
