I have a 95 Renault Laguna 2.2 diesel (140k miles) and a 99 A6 1.9 TDI (100k miles). What is the best oil to use for these?

cheers,

There's plenty of useful stuff in the threads here and I'm sure you'll get plenty of sound advice on this I'm sure from BR contributors more able than me. I found the "Engine Oil Bible " site (via the BR) very useful and informative.

I've used Millers diesel oils for years without any issues and I use their XFE PD (semi synthetic conforms to VAG standards for fixed service intervals) in my Passat. If your Audi is not the PD version, I guess your choice will be wider. Not sure about the Renault - probably have to be a bit careful about switching to a fully synthetic if the car hasn't been the beneficiary of the stuff in the past.

Well if you have got to these miles you can't be doing much wrong !!

Keep on doing what you have been doing -

Why change something that seems to work??

NeilS - many thanks for the URL - that's the info I've been looking for - a crash course on oils.

Old oiler - you've got a point. So far, the cars have been serviced by the dealers and they replaced the oil for me at the service intervals. I never even bothered topping up the oil between intervals. I finally decided to take better care of the engines thinking 'better late than never'. Therefore I now wanted to know what the best oil is and replace it more often.

Millers XFE Semi synthetic or Millers XFD Fully Synthetic.
25 litrs of XFE for about £80 and £100 for the XFD. Can be bought in conventional containers.

Evo, if you have to quote the original message, can you do so first, then add your reply underneath please? (Just like I\'ve edited your post above) It makes things a whole lot easier to read and it is the prefered way of doing things here. DD.
